PC information:

Motherboard: Gigabyte A55M-DS2
BIOS Version: FA
Processor: AMD A4-3400 APU, originally overclocked to 100 Mhz x 34 = 3.4 Ghz from standard 100 x 27= 2.7 Ghz
Ram: 8 GB DDR @ 16 x 100 = 1600 Mhz. Not overclocked, using rated
ATI HD Radeon HD6450 - not overclocked, using standard clocking
All Memory voltages, timing and processor voltages set to AUTO

The other day the PC froze after running Dolphin emulator (which bottleneck is CPU) for many hours. I've had the computer for many months now and this is the first time this has happened.

When I booted the PC back up, the CPU Clock Ratio is locked at 27. I get the following error in the BIOS:

"The system has experienced a boot failure possibly due to incorrect configuration. Previous settings in BIOS may not be compatible with current hardware state".

I'm prompted to load "BIOS optimal defaults" and chose not to, and continue to boot windows and there's no issue. I note the processor is now clocked at 2.7 Ghz.

When I shutdown the PC and go back into the bios, the existing 3.4 Ghz option is still shown on the right, but I can't change the setting, and the current value on the left column is 2.7 Ghz (processor default). After booting up a few more times, I noticed the 3.4 Ghz value is no longer there on the right (both are 2.7 Ghz).

I noticed that on information to the right it says you can only change the CPU Clock Ratio if the "CPU Ratio is unlocked".
However, there is no setting in the BIOS to do this.

I contacted the guy who I bought the PC from, and he mentioned there was no such setting, but that the processor itself cpu ratio is unlocked (as it was running this way for >1 yr).

Is it possible a flag/register got set in the BIOS or CPU that disabled overclocking when that PC freeze occurred?. I hadn't noted any particularly high operating temperatures (there's quite a large heatsink and fan to keep stable operation at 3.4 Ghz).

I've also tried the program FusionTweaker for the set the multiplier.

The multpier is recognized (i.e. PerformanceTest program also reads the CPU registers) shows the 34x multplier, but the processor frequency remains at 2700 Mhz.

I noted in PerformanceTEst--> CPU information, that when I set the the multiplier to 34x, the bus speed is reduced to 79.3 Mhz, such that processor speed is still throttled at 2700 Mhz.

Is it possible a processor register or internal BIOS setting changed, no longer allowing the effectjve processor speed to be changed? From my observations it seems that's the case (curious that FusionTweaker which modifies the processor clock multiplier registers also causes the BCLK to throttle such that the processor speed is still ~2700 Mhz)

How do I re-enable over-clocking with this BIOS/processor?

I also just tried setting the multiplier to x32 in FusionTweaker, and the clock speed throttled to 84 Mhz so that the processor speed stayed at ~2700 Mhz.
