Mod Mic with loud Keyboard

Thread Starter

I just noticed the mic on my current headset broke (Razer Kraken Pro, yes I know it's bad). I would like to stay on the cheap side and keep the headset and just put a mod mic on. For now I have a studio quality mic next to my keyboard. I noticed my friends on teamspeak made me make my mic push to talk because my keyboard was unbearable. My current keyboard is the razer black widow ultimate with the cherry mx blue switches. Another thing they told me was that even with my previous mic it bothered them too but they didn't say anything because it wasn't that bad. My current debate is getting the mod mic 2.3 vs the 3.0. On top of this I don't know if getting the mod mic will still make my keyboard loud. I know that the 3.0 is noise cancelling but it also says it's compatibility with my sound card is iffy (Asus sabertooth z77 on board audio). There is the last option of getting another keyboard and keep my backup mic which was told to me by multiple people that is good except for the unbearable keyboard noise. I'm at the same time trying not to spend that much money, what should I do. If it matters I play Counter Strike mostly. Thanks for any help in advance.

"Next to my keyboard" sounds like a bad idea.

What's the current microphone model? Is it omnidirectional or not? Maybe you could just mount it to an arm and have it both closer to your mouth and farther from the keyboard. A cheap stand is cheaper than a modmic anyhow, but if you bounce all over the place that may not be as effective.

I'm thinking you could also apply an EQ setting to the audio input to filter down high frequencies. You'd lose some of the clarity on voice, but you could cut down the offensive part of the keyboard noise by a lot potentially. If you want to try this, I could describe it in a bit more detail.

I would second the idea to get a mic boom/arm and get it closer to your mouth so you can turn the gain down. You should also use push to talk if you aren't already.

If you want a quiet keyboard, you could look at the silenced topre stuff, but those are very expensive.
