power supply arcing noise?

i Have an antec 550 watt psu and its buzzing and its almost like the sound of a cfl light bulb but loud it sounds like electricity but it could be something else im ordering a corsair 500 watt psu since its modular and only about 70 bucks is it safe to use my rig like is it even safe for me to be using it right now because i use this machine daily and if this antec psu is gonna cause me to not be able to use my rig for a week ill be mad i edit videos , photos , music on this pc and i play alot of games and watch alot of youtube on it , it basically does everything. anyway can i use my pc and what is making this annoying sound because its scaring me

sounds like coil whine, very common with psu's. ive had it happen to many. ranges from buzzing/humming/to clicking. if you really think its arching, turn off the lights and look into it. you can see electricity =)

Yeah, it's probably coil whine. What Antec is it? What Corsair did you buy?

Considering his Antec is most likely a Basiq or similar unit (that being the most common Antec 550W), the CX500 would be an upgrade, Shilka.

Im stuck at the moment with a cx500m and really regret buying one. Also they sound like jet engines . You can get much better for the price

i don't think i was overloading the psu i have a radeon 7750 which uses no power connector and a ssd and hdd odd
and fx 4130 i think my pc could run off 400 watts but i got 500 watts which is still a downgrade from antecs 550 watts

i forgot to say this is my second antecf psu in this pc the other one a 450 watt model fried my mobo and other pc components before which is why i stopped using my pc immidietly i regret getting an antec but it was the only official looking brand i saw at staples which is where i got both i also regret denying the warranty

xfx looks good but alll I've ever heard about them is being loud and my pc is pretty quiet ,plus i ordered my psu already and i know i can trust a corsair , hopefully...

Brand has nothing to do with quality and the CX is the second worst series Corsair sells

Its not outright bad and its better then what you have now but calling it good is a stretch
