Zero hardware errors after a few hours, and the card is cooking away at 87degC, was only 75ish before. Thanks!

Stripped the 6950 last night because one of the TF2's fans is making a stupid noise... fans aren't really serviceable so gave up on that, cleaned the heatsink, put it back together with a tiny dot of Phobya HeGrease on the core.....

And it runs HOTTER now somehow. :l only by a degree or two but enough to run the card into overheat territory and cgminer cuts it off. That comes as a bit of a surprise. Need to have a look at settings I think, see if I can turn something down a little.

Got my eye on a set of Powercolor 7950s (two fan model) locally, hoping to get them for a nice price. We'll see smile.gif

Any chance of taking a peek at that batch file? Mind you, not sure it'll help me much, since I'm setting up a *.conf

That's odd that you are running that hot on those settings. Mine is a reference cooler (blower fan) and I run it around 85% speed, temps stay in the low 70s with the case closed up. Ambient is 72F in that room. If you are seeing 85+ on that card, I'd try reseating the heatsink with some new paste and pads, also double check the fan speeds and make sure they are spinning as fast as they should be.

I redid the heatsink last night, it is 100% seated correctly. No change. This has always been a hot card, it was one they sent me to replace a dud 6870; pretty sure it's a refurb. One fan has been noisy from pretty much the first week I had it but the RPM seems right, up in the 4000s.

I turned the card back to 810/1250 and it sits around 85degC now, survived all night without shutting off.

Couple of ghetto-spec cable-tied 120mm fans in the case pointing at the GPU heatsink dropped temps by 4-5degC, allowing me to get that 925/1425 overclock back.

I also switched to an auto-switching port on the multiport pool, is that a smart option long term or am I better off just leaving it mining the one currency the whole time?

I bought myself a 6970 (XFX w/EK waterblock) to set to work as well but I need to find the right screws to put the reference air cooler back on. Paid 150AUD, I think that's reasonable for what it is...?

6970 is in. Those reference coolers are loud at full noise! Good thing it *shouldn't* need to be running at full speed, hopefully. I say "shouldn't" because I can't get it to mine reliably yet.

I'm not sure how to properly set up my config file for the two cards. Here's what I have at the moment (turned speeds down from 925/1425 to the 6970's stock 880/1375)

"intensity" : "18",
"vectors" : "1",
"worksize" : "256",
"kernel" : "scrypt",
"lookup-gap" : "0",
"thread-concurrency" : "8064",
"shaders" : "1536",
"gpu-engine" : "880",
"gpu-fan" : "50-100",
"auto-fan" : true,
"temp-cutoff" : "95",
"temp-overheat" : "85",
"temp-target" : "65",
"gpu-memclock" : "1375",
"gpu-memdiff" : "0",
"gpu-powertune" : "20",
"gpu-vddc" : "0.000",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"scan-time" : "5",
"expiry" : "10",
"failover-only" : true,
"scrypt" : true,
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0"

It goes fine for a minute or two then my monitors go weird - DVI one black, miniDP one a colour pattern. Guessing that's a display driver crash? I'm not sure what settings to be playing around with to prevent this from happening. If anyone can help me out here I'd appreciate it, pretty keen to get this up and mining again since that was the whole point of buying the 6970 smile.gif

edit: just had the same crash with the system just idling. weird. Might try a driver reinstall, maybe update to latest and see if they still crash Skyrim. May try adding a crossfire bridge and see if that improves anything, although I can't imagine it would

OK a couple of things have changed.

1. I moved from an unlocked 6950 to a pair of HIS reference-cooled 7970s.

2. I moved from multipool.us to clevermining.com

I have another rig here mining away with a Sapphire Vapor-X 280X (I understand this is essentially a 7970), I simply copied the parameters of its config file across to my 7970 rig. It's doing some weird stuff and doesn't display the header info correctly in cgminer.. I'm hoping someone can point out where I've gone wrong.

I'd like to open the floor for suggestions what I've done wrong with crossfired 7970s:

"intensity" : "13",
"vectors" : "1",
"worksize" : "256",
"kernel" : "scrypt",
"lookup-gap" : "2",
"thread-concurrency" : "8191",
"shaders" : "2048",
"gpu-engine" : "1050",
"gpu-fan" : "30-85",
"auto-fan" : true,
"temp-cutoff" : "90",
"temp-overheat" : "85",
"temp-target" : "72",
"gpu-memclock" : "1500",
"gpu-memdiff" : "0",
"gpu-powertune" : "-20",
"gpu-vddc" : "0.000",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"gpu-threads" : "2",
"scan-time" : "60",
"expiry" : "1",
"failover-only" : true,
"scrypt" : true,
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0"

Thanks!
Sam
