I know dell has the 24 inch one, But I wonder how much of an upgrade over 27" 1440 PLS that is.

Is there anything good and reasonable price on the horizon ?

If the 24" Dell is too small, all of the 31.5" IGZO monitors would fit the bill.

like what one specifically? I just saw this...

http://www.engadget.com/products/asus/pb287q/specs/

I can't find a listing for refresh rate or panel type though.

I guess I should also figure out if my 2x 290x at 1150/1400mhz is up to the task of 4k. I know it stomps 1440p pretty good.... but 4k is a lot more pixels

At my local computer store there is a 4k monitor/tv that looks to be 39" and they claimed it cost $1000. It didn't look Korean either. I may have a picture, I will reply later if I find it on my SDCard.

for a TV it is probably awesome, there isn't enough 4K tv content yet nor do I watch enough tv for me to care.

Sharp PN-K321, Asus PQ321Q, and Dell UP3214Q are available now... at say $2500 and up.

Look at the response time quoted on that PB287Q. It's TN. All of the early crop of 28" 4k are say under $1000 or so and TN. That said, that's TN with 8 bits, sometimes 8 bits + AFRC for 10 bits precision. I mean, it's not like TNs have worse contrast or colorspace coverage than IPS and IPS-like techs. For a relatively good TN, the real disadvantage would just be the color shifting from top to bottom from viewing angles. These shouldn't be like cheapo TNs.

As for what the future holds, there are supposedly new 4k panels in production in more the 27" range that aren't TN. Some info:
