Does unlocking a core really add 10C?

Now that I've got a high end cooler im thinking about unlocking my 4th core and going for 2.5GHz with 1.45V but i'm not entirely sure what my temps will be considering you lose the ability to monitor them when you unlock. I did do a search on Google and what seems to be the census is adding 10-20C for an unlocked core is that true? My current temps are 13C idle and 25C while in prime 95.

Yes, adding another core to the mix will contribute to the heat by as much as 10c or higher, especially on an ageing architecture.

If you keep the temp in check, sure u should be fine. thumb.gif

Just keep the temp low and don't pump too much volt into the chip biggrin.gif

How should i go about seeing the temps? all i get when i unlock is the CPUTIN and that is like 10-20C above what the core reports as a triple core.

That about answers your question. Take that socket temp and subtract 10 degrees. That is about as close as you are going to get. I went through that with my Phenon 555 when I unlocked the other two cores. BTW it got significantly hotter, say 15-20 degrees especially when overclocked.

Even with 1.5V mine topped out at 31C on the CPUTIN running prime95, so that's say 25C give or take a few right?

Wait what? What kind of cooling are you running? My little Kuhler 620 clc struggled to keep mine under 65C, and that's with stock voltage at 3.8!

I'm running a Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme with a 250CFM fan above it blowing air onto it plus the 90CFM fan inside it. Also with 3 cores it loads at 25C running prime 95 same clock and voltage. maybe its a bad sensor i mean the heatsink isn't even very warm.

With the old Phenom II AMD sold triple cores and dual cores with extra cores disabled and through a bios trick you can unlock them and sometimes be stable.
