Well I probably won't be buying Titanfall after seeing this, lol.
Not only did they fail to provide 1080p support, they instead chose to use a non-standard "792p" resolution. What the hell is up with that?
At the least, couldn't they have done 768p? Something people actually are likely to have? (Tons of "720p" TVs are falsely advertised and are instead 1366x768)

IMO game graphics follow this
1080p > 720p > Anything else.
If you choose to leave the standards, you're doing it wrong unless you're selling non-standard displays for your game.

I hope the PC version is made better. I was interested in this game, but this info kind of killed most of it.

I was seriously hoping this nonsense would be gone entirely with the new generation.
With any luck, this will just be a terrible launch and some developers who screwed up and most other games will do things correctly.

I agree, but am quite surprised that they think they can raise resolution by ~44% just by turning off fxaa. (900p to 1080p) isn't the entire point of it to be an awful quality but pretty much free antialiasing method? If they can't do it because of limited memory capacity etc, that would be dissapointing

This. Motion flickering with FXAA / SMAA / all other post processing AAs is godawful. I don't understand how people can stand it.

HL2 can be maxed with a Geforce 6800 GT.
6800 GT will get 2 fps in Titanfall.

A distant couch seems to be the #1 thing that people bring up when asked about it.
I believe a lot of the people who are OK with FXAA / no AA on consoles or claim to not notice the difference are simply nearsighted and don't wear the glasses they should either own or have prescribed to them.

I'm nearsighted, and I can sit about 20' from a 50" TV and manage to see compression artifacts on Cable with my glasses. (They were VERY visible this last Superbowl) I also think I'm in need of a new prescription too, so lol.


With 4K TVs likely to become the next standard, it's even stupider to go with a resolution such as 792/900p. 720p and 1080p both scale perfectly with 2160p (4K). Good scaling requires going up by whole numbers in multiplication, fractions ruin everything.

720 -> x3 -> 2160 - Pixel perfect representation of original render, effectively "Zoomed 3x"
1080 -> x2 -> 2160 - Pixel perfect representation of original render, effectively "Zoomed 2x"

792 -> x2.7272.... -> 2160 - Going to be blurry due to interpolation
900 -> x2.4 -> 2160 - Going to be blurry due to interpolation


Why be dumb and force interpolation on current gen, and next gen displays? frown.gif Damn you, Titanfall devs.

I think the same, i'm nearsighted (can see individual pixels somewhat on vg248qe ~90ppi from a couple feet) and tv from across the room (5-10 feet) started to look equally bad regardless of resolution etc, lack of focus. Glasses and fixing that immediately made 60" 720p/1080i become terrifyingly bad even at 2-3 meters away

Agree on the scaling stuff, the big reason we use 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4k without much in between is ease of scaling.

720p scales 2 into 3 on the X and Y axis for 1080p
720p scales 1 into 2 on the X and Y axis for 1440p
720p scales 1 into 3 on the X and Y axis for 2160p

1080p scales 3 into 4 on the X and Y axis for 1440p
1080p scales 1 into 2 on the X and Y axis for 2160p etc~

It's probably heavily modified Source. As the 2004 version would run at 120 fps in 4K with every slider as far as it goes on that 7790 in the XBOne as my 7870 could do ~150..180 fps at 10 megapixels.

It is pretty decent looking for 2004 dx 9 game.

You were way behind then. I was using a 1600x1200 monitor by 2005 and a pretty much everyone had at the very least 1280x1024. Also remember the xbox 360 launched with no HDMI option, so you were restricted to what...480p? I'm glad people are paying attention to resolution, it makes a huge difference in graphical fidelity. It also shows how weak these next gen systems are. I bet microsoft is still turning a decent profit on each xbox one sold already, never mind 3 years from now. How many people buy consoles for things other than gaming? I would hazard to guess very few. Therefor gaming resolution will always be an important factor.
