This is one case where saving some $ here ends up costing them more in the long run. Their PR is shattered by all this weak console talk vs the PS4, and rightfully so

imo I'm disappointed with Microsoft, the Xbox One really did turn out to be the Xbox 720 (pun intended) maybe the next gen they'll hit 1440 standard, jokes aside, it's a shame, why on earth has a console in 2014 got DDR3 memory? for the system I guess its okay, but for the GPU? rolleyes.gif

It looks to me that the Xbox One wins on the software front though however imo, with the multitasking and all of those apps, It's pretty cool, just like the 360 I guess, PS3 lacked party chat in games, the XMB was occasionally sluggish in games, the list goes on.

Microsoft flopped on the technical front seriously this time, their main selling points of their system are exclusives, Kinect and the whole Home Entertainment thing, which isn't exactly bad, but they seriously played it risky this gen, I suppose their whole focus isn't primarily gamers, perhaps some casuals aswell.

Hey, atleast it plays MP3s lachen.gif

Did you expect any thing less? Its a CONSOLE port. Naive PC gamers never learn. You would think so from "last gen". Console is the lead once again and poor ports will continue on.

I kinda have a feeling this is Nintendo's last laugh, somewhat.

They had a ridiculous success with their casual-focused Wii, and M$ tried to copy this success with the Kinect, but it didn't work out the same way. We just don't see M$ doing casual stuff the way Nintendo did it, and Nintendo is ok with being the complementary console to the big 2 so they can do whatever they want.

Wii U is entirely a different story, but that's another story. IMO, it's still a complementary console as well.

So what is M$ going to do once they realize the whole Kinect thing that costed them the chance at a GPU like the PS4 is a farce, like it always was day 1?

No idea, do a Kinectless XBone? The annoying bottleneck of ESRAM is still there, and the reduced GPU is stuck there for the generation. They better be hoping this generation is a short one, like 4 years was for the original Xbox.

I would have skipped the Kinect unit since it sounds like they had to sacrifice too much, and increase the price over the PS4. Sure, they get the Kinect "killer feature" (which I still see as a gimmick) but at the expense of being at a huge performance disadvantage.

Honestly, the Xbone feels almost exactly like the 360 to me. The graphics are marginally better (mainly due to higher framerates) and the OS and features are nicer, and it has a more refined gimmick in Kinect 2.0. But nothing about it really feels next-gen to me.

I have not played a PS4 personally, but I'd be surprised if it was much different. I think that "next gen" is a PC-exclusive feature. For me personally, the only thing I've played so far that I thought was truly "next-gen" graphically was maxed Crysis 3 at 1440p.

They don't have much incentive to do this, though, since they are getting $50-60/year from those folks for their Xbox Live Gold subscriptions.

WIthout the Kinect and the same price tag, they probably could of thrown in more beefier hardware than the PS4, but nope.
If they decide to go Kinectless it basically makes the whole concept of weakening the specs to include Kinect futile, maybe it will be cheaper to buy?
The GPU isn't too bad but it's going to be lumbered with sub 1080p forever basically unless the tiny ESRAM works wonders later in its lifestyle, basically a Kinectless Xbox One's only selling point is exclusives and maybe the software itself and the whole concept of home entertainment, the Xbox One only had the Kinect which distanced it from the PS4 majorly, you take that away and all it has is exclusives really, not like the PS4 is majorly different but that's targeted towards pure gaming mainly, exclusives and hardware is what it has under its hood, the Xbox One? Kinect and Exclusives, maybe you could say Home Entertainment too. it looks soo weak compared to the PS4 which isn't even that strong, a cut-down 7870 probably running between 800-900mhz core speed.

In my opinion I think Kinect is cool, haven't tried the Xbox One's Kinect 2.0 so i cant say if it's been majorly overhauled from the original, what they really need to sell that system are a set of motion control games that dont feel like gimmicks, something like a Metroid Style Shooter or Party Games, the sports games are getting old, they really need something original to come to the table, perhaps VR? I'm still upset about what they did to RARE and I will never forgive them unless I see a new Banjo game or the games RARE used to make *cough* Conker *cough*, I think they had hand in Killer Instinct but not entirely sure who's IP that originally was.
