Ivy Bridge @4.5ghz running Aida 64 5.01 BSOD on 2nd pass?? - Page 2

OK I think I narrowed down my troubles.. It seems when I run 4 sticks of RAM I get a lot of Freezes.. I just took out 2 sticks and ran IBT on High and it passed when before it would freeze..

I think the system is unstable because of the 4 sticks of ram?? I am going to try and run memtest again which I did the other week and it passed fine.. I am unsure what is going on here..

But perhaps the system is unstable with 4 sticks of RAM??

It could be that some voltage needs to be adjusted, but what voltage, I don't know.

yes the memory is identical..

I tried bumping up the CPU volts that didn't seem to help.. I don't think I would want to up the voltage on the ram??

For example: I had to increase the VCCIO voltage. You don't have that in your BIOS, but it's the voltage for the IMC. It could be in your BIOS under a completely different name for all I know. I'm not saying that this is it, but the CPU core voltage is definitely not one that you would have to increase. Now, I guess that you can try to increase the memory voltage or maybe some others, but what if you could just wait for some good suggestions and do a lot less work? :)

Well I tuned it down and took out the other 2 sticks of ram and now I ran IBT at Very High for 15mins and passed..

I am clocked to 4.3ghz @ 1.210vcore under load.. seems I can go look at the Ivy Bridge guide again and see what else I can adjust..

This is because 4 ram sticks put more strain on the CPU. Having two ram stocks will put less strain on the CPU (IMC, INTEGRATED MEMORY CONTROLLER). That's why you'll find it more stable with dual team sticks on dual channel.

I'm glad I changed 4x4 16 gb to 8x2 16gb, I may attempt 4.7 GHz again.

Yes I have read that before looks like I will need to sell these sticks and get 2 8gb sticks for a total of 2 ram sticks @ 16gb..

I also got it stale at 4.3ghz currently.. I was able to complete a run on the x264 program.. I will have to tinker with this tomorrow off to a gaming session know..

Man..... I would say, just ask in a new thread if there is a voltage or something that can be adjusted to make 4 sticks work. It could save you some money.
