Recommend a mechanical keyboard for gaming and word processing?

EDIT: I have seen the 'recommend me...' thread and realise this should be in there! Please ignore, and apologies.

Hi all,

I am building a PC primarily for gaming and light office use, and thinking of treating myself to a classy mechanical keyboard. I like just the general look of them. Can you recommend one (but I will also post in the keyboards forum about this so feel free to ignore this part!)? I will be using it a lot, for hours every day, and while I do quite a bit of gaming, I am a writer by profession so something that works for both would be good.

I don't like flashy 'gamer' keyboards - personally I think they look a little tacky with the logos and dragons and all that - and prefer something that looks classy/more minimalist. I do make use of media controls though (play, pause, fast forward/rewind, etc). Budget is a consideration here as well, of course, but for the right keyboard I can spend a little more. Also I guess darker colours might be better than lighter ones, as they won't show the dirty finger marks so much, hah. Or maybe I just need to clean... ?

I am in the UK, if this helps.

This looks good value but I am unsure of the quality: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0041KJKAG?ref_=pe_780071_41837251

Thanks!

Have you decided on what switch type you want? It makes a huge difference to the overall feel and functionality of a keyboard. You can read about the different switches here if you aren't sure.

Cherry keyboards are okay, nothing special but what do you expect for the price. The switches are the same whether you buy a cheap or an expensive mechanical so the only other differences are build quality and features. That particular Cherry keyboard uses MX Blue switches I believe.

Starting a new thread is fine, if you wish to post in the Keyboard Suggestion Thread, then that's fine too. smile.gif
