I like the way stardock and fences pro operate my desktop environment. Without it I'd not enjoy my desktop nearly as much. But most of my aunts and uncles have never seen those things, or know they exist.

Saying it's fine because you can change it with your own customizations is like saying as a mechanic it's fine to buy a brand new car off the showroom floor with a drivers door that doesn't open, because it's easy to install a few cheap hinges. It might be okay to you as a mechanic, but sorry, brand new car off the shelf? I shouldn't have to install hinges on my door. Because that's just ridiculous.

No, because that's something that belongs to the realm of "advanced," i.e. not the default plug-and-play behavior that the manufacturer expects out of 90% of people. Last time I checked, start menus and shutdown buttons are more on the "basic" level wink.gif

No because 500 dollar GPU's are usable out of the box. Windows 8 metro is not.

This isn't a matter of "not being able to figure it out", this is a matter of "Now that I've figured it out, I still don't like it.  Why did they change it?"  Simply because you like it doesn't mean that it is good or even desirable for others. wink.gif

Serious dude if you think Windows 8 Metro is unusable out the box you should get rid of your PC and even a console, perhaps a DVD player because they are to complex for you to use. Metro changed some stuff but anyone with a small fraction of an amount of computer usage experience could make full use of it within minutes, even the so called hidden stuff.

what happened to the days when an enthusiast wanted to explore, find new things and actually work at digging into their PC? kookoo.gif

No need for the condescension y'all, this thread is about users who've found solutions to common issues they've experienced with Windows 8 - along with a little venting wink.gif.

It's one of the most polarizing OSes released, with most finding it - especially long-term Windows users - a frustrating initial experience. For all kinds of reasons that have been posted here. Others actually like the changes, and that's perfectly alright, too.

That's exactly what I did for the first week on and off... Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
in order to make Windows 8 how I'd like it rolleyes.gif.

what part of working out of the box did you and your kind not comprehend?

how about buying some fried chicken where it is burnt, all you have to do is peel away the burnt part.
how about buying a juice where it is too sweet, all you have to do is add water to dilute.
how about buying a shirt with a un finish seam, all you have to do is sew that up.

how about buying win8 with broken metro, all you have to do is add 3rd party software to hide metro.

if you are on microsoft's payroll. just say so.
better yet. how about you and your kind stop using everything that is actually working out of the box so you can explore, find new things and actually work at fixing it.

so so so done beating this dead horse.

But the problem is for your opinion(s), that windows 8 DOES work and is hardly broken, only working as intended. And that works well, too. The underlying OS is superior to Windows 7 itself.

The real problem is, some simply don't like the changes they made. I am one of them, I'm still on Win 7. However, I do not sit here and wrongfully say it is broken..

P.S. A $500 gpu is not usable outside of the box, you need to install it, make sure you have updated drivers, hope the psu is enough, etc. Far more intense then the metro screen I'm afraid wink.gif
