If it's a laptop with no built-in USB 3.0 and no ExpressCard slot, the best option is a external NAS drive with a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a cheap 4 port switch to hook it all together. It doesn't have to be complicated, here's a cheap $149 version from WD:

Oh, definitely! A NAS is the way to go in those conditions. Just covering all possibilities since OP is MIA and thusly this has become more of a theoretical thread.
