Other people have done blind tests with higher-end equipment like Asus Essence One + HD650's, still can't tell the difference. Only in studio setups the difference starts becoming noticeable I think.

Adding to it, I haven't heard any player reviews squealing about Titanfall's sound quality compared to say...BF4, the one game known for mind-blowing audio immersion (doesn't have ridiculous audio file sizes). Nobody has mentioned audio quality and I've been watching tons of player reviews.

Anyway Respawn said that they primarily did this to reduce CPU overhead on junk-level computers, not audio quality purposes.

Music is not the same as sound effects. Read up on why 24k audio is pointless for music, but not for things like movies/games. Last of Us, also had lossless audio and many reviews raved about how good the audio quality was. smile.gif

I can tell the difference between 320kbps MP3 and lossless for music, but it's hard to blind test. It's not the same as Dolby Digital to DTS-HD or TrueHD, which is a very big difference for me on my Klipsch RF-7 speakers. I dunno maybe it's just my equipment. I spent $3,800 just on my subwoofers, so my situation isn't the norm... redface.gif

I think this is a terrible idea. So instead of processing the lossy audio, you have uncompressed audio which is going to thrash the hard drives of low end builds? Does the audio at least have lossless compression?

Time to use TrueAudio biggrin.gif

I'm downloading titanfall at @4.20-5MB/Sec with 6MBps internet connection. o_O

lower bitrate audio would have done the same thing for low end setup

and besides if you have a low end setup i doubt you have $1000+ sound setup to hear the audio quality differences(if any)

Nice setup thumb.gif. I personally can't tell the difference between 320 kbps and lossless, but I use lossless anyway. My setups are fairly good, but I don't feel like going into higher end yet because I'm satisfied with the sound I'm getting. I sort of want to try to get into DIY amplification and speakers, since buying equipment is a little boring and not much of a hobby in itself.

Uncompressed audio is not going to "thrash" a HDD, even a HDD from low-end builds.

Even if the audio used was recorded at 24bit/192kHz, it would only need a HDD that has a minimum read speed of 0.55MB/sec per audio channel - and even if you multiply that by 8 (assuming Titanfall uses 7.1 audio) the HDD will only need a minimum read speed of 4,4MB/sec - and that speed is easily supported by pretty much all HDDs for the past decade and will definitely not "thrash" a HDD wink.gif

However, transcoding/decoding 7.1 channels of audio, on the fly, uses a HUGE amount of processing power - and so it makes a hell of a lot more sense to take the approach Respawn has so that ppl with older PC's (and possibly older consoles) can still enjoy the game.
