custom external water setup?

Thread Starter
I just built my new system, in the new h440 case, which means i can't use my dual by res/pump Now. I have a good background at custom built enclosure's of all sorts. What are your ideas and standings on building an enclosure? Any benefits or con's to it? It would house my pump/res, a couple radiators and maybe a custom seating for a peltier for a plain water block.I'm going to start up some designing and throw a few pictures up later on. All for any input.

Why not?

I thought about it and I was going to build a custom enclosure to house all my WC components, but I have kids.

And I rather have all the components inside a case so it's harder for the kids to get their hands on it.

I've done it, my very first watercooled build has an external setup I made. It was basic, but for 1999 it was pretty beast.

It consisted of a wood frame, aluminum sheet metal screwed to it for a frame, and the from was screened in, the back was open, had a jeep heater core that had 2 120mm Delta's zip tied to it, with a pond pump mounted inside a tupperware container. It worked biggrin.gif Oh the pump was AC so it had to be switched on before or right after the PC was. kinda a a nuisance

With todays available materials you could make something really nice, it just kills easy portability/mobility.

Yeah, it can work really well.

One bonus is that you can place it remotely and put high speed fans on it for more performance without noise near the computer. I have seem them put in crawl spaces, outside a window, in a (well ventilated) closet and so on.
Just consider any extra pumping power needed for the longer tubing runs and you are good.

When building the enclosure consider air flow, try to build in such a way that you are not losing performance from having the radiators enclosed. Having plenty of open area and air flow in one direction only are two ways to achieve this. I have seen wind tunnel style designs, and also open air frames / stands.

Well I have a 1 & 2yr old but my desk is tall enough and in a more or less off limits area for them.
I think I'll build it for a smaller less important system and see how it pans out. My mild concern is all of the added length of hose causing lower pressure and possibly a little Worried about the Powering of the pump and fans, I suppose run a molex extension through the back of the case, to the inside of the enclosure to a fan controller and the pump. Time to pick up some acrylic

Lol I got some answers during my reply. I'm having different thoughts because of the mobility factor.

Yeah, it does kind of limit moving the rig around.

You can always go for a pedestal type design and attach it to the bottom of your case.

I like the pedestal idea.

personally I would just sell the dualbay and get a tube-res and pump. much less hassle. you could still mount the dualbay internally. I can imagine you could easily find a place for it that doesnt look too stupid too.

Not even possible to use the dual bay, without obstructing the cooling features of the front fans and the location of the front radiator.

I guess selling this one and going for another type will possibly be my route.

I'm still possibly going to maybe build The enclosure for a different system maybe. Itll give me a prohect

I was thinking of setting it in the bottom, facing the window or something. I know it wont go in the bays because there are none, I was thinking of placing it like you would a normal pump /res.
