Questions regarding RAID & External HDD's. - Page 3

seagate is one of the least reliable drive manufactures.
(says the guy with a 2tb seagate drive thats working fine)

i'd recommend again, get a WD blue or Black drive, buy two of them, and one external case to put one of them in.

Okay I will switch to WD just based on what you guys said. I already have two RAID 0 WD Black Caviar 500G drives, i've had them since like. 2009. And they still work great.
I don't wanna take a risk with seagate, so ill go for WD.

I need help finding a 2TB internal and a 2TB external from WD that is under 300$ after im done lol.

For some reason at 2TB WD drives jump in cost.
http://www.ncix.com/products/?minorcatid=109&po=0&ps=2

I intend to buy from NCIX since I live very close to one of their stores.

Maybe I'm going overboard with 2TB. 1TB is more than affordable for me. My music library RIGHT NOW as MP3 320KBPS is 26.29GB, 1307 Tracks (Including mxies). 7 days + 13:25:29 time total. (I love winamp).

In lossless, that would be like... What. 100GB? About 4times the original size?

And when I get my HDDs, I wont even be loading music on them right away. Lossless music is pricey as all hell, and I probably wont even be able to load them up that fast.

By time I reach 1TB I'll have the cash for more HDD's. Hell maybe possibly even a SSD setup.

I think 1tb drives would do just fine for you..... long ways to go.

here is my library! wink.gif {just for grins!} A lot of it would probably hurt your ears, though... lol!

smile.gif It looks so nice. All those folders. Can't wait to start mine lol.

I see that yours is lossless, you have way more than I will even start with, and your still at 300ish GB. So yeah it looks like a terabyte is a perfect size for me to start with.

Okay let's see...

http://products.ncix.com/detail/western-digital-wd1003fzex-black-1tb-98-92021-1285.htm

&

http://products.ncix.com/detail/wd-my-passport-ultra-1tb-23-89554-1285.htm

OR

http://products.ncix.com/detail/western-digital-wd-1tb-elements-6c-89009.htm

???

I feel it in mah bones. I'm almost done, so simple two hard drives. But I guess when your spending $200+ On anything you gotta take your time.

You can always setup a scheduled (or Manual) incremental backup... to the second drive. Several good tools out there that will do uncompressed file level backups... makes it easy to do. I use Cobian backup.. works well, and will even copy permissions if needed. http://www.cobiansoft.com/cobianbackup.htm

If you need to check the two drives and compare them to see if they are both up to date... try a tool called Beyond Compare. Fast and handles large numbers of files gracefully: http://www.scootersoftware.com/moreinfo.php

I have multiple backups that I do.. a HTPC where I copy 320bit files for streaming, another folder full of 256bit files for my Ipod, and maintain the lossless library also. These are the tools that make that work.
