AMD has OpenCL for ages now. CUDA is just Nvidia's marketing tool which is slyly copied off OpenCL in the early days

Strong. Yeah. I wouldn't have needed an upgrade if that was the case.

My gut feeling is that I could wait a few more months for the videocard, and get a new everything else right now. Missing out on sata2 or 3 speeds, not having usb3 ports, having much older chipset... Wouldn't it be ok to upgrade the machine now and the videocard in... 6 months?

Alright so OP here is what I would do.

You will not be happy upgrading just CPU/mobo/ram, take my word on that. What you need to do is get a new GPU, then upgrade everything else. Your 920 is not a bottleneck trust me, my dad has the 930, he oc'd it to like 3.5GHz and runs a GTX 770. His GPU is the bottleneck 99% of the time, but he plays planetside which is notoriously hard on the cpu, WoW is not. What I would do is the following.
Either get a GTX 770 and nothing else, it will fit in your case, it might run into the hdd bays though just as an FYI so move the HDD's down a little bit.
Get this one if you do. (Yes of all places TigerDirect has the cheapest 770)
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8190158&SRCCODE=LSCAN&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&utm_source=Linkshare&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=8BacdVP0GFs&AffiliateID=8BacdVP0GFs-2OLl.PVFTHPWUiX5Ch_kHA

Or you could get a GTX 760
http://products.ncix.com/detail/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-760-oc-a8-85587-1285.htm?affiliateid=7474144
and the fractal case (Get it from memoryexpress because $5 shipping on cases last time I checked, you will still save money even buying from 2 different places)
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX40048
or this NZXT H440 when it comes in stock
http://products.ncix.com/detail/nzxt-h440-atx-mid-tower-55-94094.htm?affiliateid=7474144

Maybe think about getting a different cpu cooler, what do you have now?

My current cpu cooler is a Noctua NH-U9B SE, and it's sadly noisy... or maybe it's the old 500W powersupply, I can't really pinpoint. If I shut down the tv and there's nothing else happening but the computer running, the sound my system produces is very noticeable. In fact at night, when I go to bed, I almost close the door of my bedroom, so I can't hear it!! (my computer runs 24/7)

I was looking at liquid cooling, saw the Corsair H60 cooler, seemed very easy to install, and efficient enough?

And WOW that GTX770 from TigerDirect is cheap! But isn't PNY "bad"? My brother told me he would never buy Zotac/PNY/PowerColor cheaper sorts...

No PNY isnt the greatest company, but I would own that one. They aren't bad, they're just not as good as the bigger companies. I've owned a Zotac GTX 670 4GB, it was used, and it lasted quite a while. My dad used a Zotac GTX 650ti in my moms computer well over a year ago without a single hiccup. They were really crappy back in the day, but lately PNY/Zotac/Powercolor have been doing quite well. People even recommended the Powercolor PCS+ HD7950/70

Don't bother with an H60. Your air cooler is loud? GET NEW FANS! Spend like $30 on 2 good fans. My favorites ATM are the Bitfenix Spectre Pro's and Swiftech Helix's, but Gentle Typhoons are also great.

By the way, MemoryExpress isn't shipping cases for 5$, well they are charging me 8.99$ hehe. I did find the case on NewEgg for LESS, which I might just go for it. Also, my current power supply barely reaches the power connector to my motherboar, so I think it would be wise to hit 2 birds with 1 stone (sound + longer cables), and buy a new one.

So, onto buying that videocard, the casing, a power supply (500-650W should do?... got something specific I should go for?). Once I get the new power supply I'll know quickly if I need to change the fans on the heatsink hehe.

you wont need the exrta fan on top - anyway more fans mean more noise - i don't like open side, top space or even front open cases, hence my Lian Li PC-B10 which is so quite.

Can you hear my system ? Nope, nor can I biggrin.gif

That smile fits well with your avatar lol!

But it's a great to think I could use the actual system into the new casing while not removing the top cover!

Well I would personally go for the XFX CorePro 550W. Should have no trouble powering your system. Plus your current PSU is kinda crappy no offence.

BUUUT SINCE THIS IS ON SALE BUY THIS! $5 more and 100 more watts, sign me up!
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX32587

Out of stock!
*EDIT*
Found it again, but it is more money this time. $15 more, but I think it would be worth it.
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_1238_442&item_id=052924

*EDIT AGAIN*
Forgot to mention, yes it is cheaper at newegg, but look at how much shipping is. I think its something like $15.

From NewEgg it comes down to 125.98$, and MemoryExpress comes down to 135.43$ (shipping + taxes). NewEgg wins this time. tongue.gif
