Building a new rig, need help - Page 6

Just wanna say/add: I bought the GTX770, and I'm definitively getting more fps... but World of Warcraft is indeed cpu hungry, I just did a 40 men Ordos kill, and the framerate still dropped down to 12 fps!! And that's with the settings to "high", not even near "ultra". So for some games, my cpu seem very old indeed.

Check the CPU usage during a point when it lags and report back.

On some cores, it gets over 90% usage. I read somewhere the 64bits client was using more cpu, so I tried the 32bits client, and it never gets over 85% (estimation). Makes you wonder where is the "gain" from using a "more efficient" client...

And your GPU usage is below this number correct? or is it at 100%. If its at 100%, then you are perfectly matched.

I didn't check that... but I was using the same graphic settings from the GTX560ti, with the GTX770, and the fps was just a handful more. Wouldn't that indicate a cpu problem, more than gpu?

Maybe yes maybe no. Could be any number of things. Just check your GPU usage, if the usage is below your CPU, then upgrade the CPU when you can.

MSI afterburner has an overlay thing (since im assuming you dont have more then 1 monitor) that can show you anything you want in-game. Its in the Afterburner settings somewhere.

It's known that It's definitely the CPU when we're talking about WoW. It's been like that, no matter how powerful your CPU the blizzard engine is garbage.

The (kinda) sad part now, is that I don't get real benefit in WoW, and my encoding times are unchanged. If I went with a cpu/mobo upgrade, while keeping the GTX560ti, I might just have gain framerate, and shave encoding times (I encode in average 30 hours a week). And now I'm out of cash for awhile so... the 600$ I just spent doesn't feel like much of an upgrade after all.
