Thanks mA, no it is not. It almost got me three times.

I am excited to get these all together , the water comes again this weekend smile.gif
I've never heard of that disease but I'm glad you ok now. thumb.gif

It is the same thing that killed Jim Henson

It eats holes in your lungs while it fill them with fluid. (Streptococcus pneumoniae) You start with flu like symptoms and then start coughing up blood. It can be antibiotic resistant which is why I have been having such a hard time. It came back again.

The doctors told my wife for three days that my chances were a coin flip basically. if she had waited 6 hours more to get me to hospital, I would not be here.

Glad to hear you are better RED!!! Why does it keep coming back?

Duality92 the JetFlo 140's haven't been released to the consumer market yet. They are just OEM and that you get with the Nepton Cooler. A CoolerMaster rep here on OCN said they were not completely happy with them and they went back into revision. I personally hope they shrink that fan hub. It's way to big. A massive dead spot that needs to be overcome. I think they should shrink the hubs on their fans like the did with the Xtra Flow.

 Hey Alastair,

That's a question that I received a "well there could be e number of reasons" it probably never was completely gone. They told me it would be a two month recovery and to take things very slow..I didn't exactly follow those instructions to the letter :o.

As far as the jet Flo's go, I am all for better, but good god do they move air through a rad. The temp difference between the Nepton and the H100, Silver Arrow is incredible.

What you had is the most common adult pulmonitis, usually dangerous only if diagnosed late and in elder people with other prior pathologies. The symptoms you describe aren't even the typical ones. (coughing blood isn't typical. Coughing mucous, with rusty colour spots is the norm). Neither is normal to be "destructive". This is the typical anatomo-pathologic picture, not "holes" in the lungs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lobar_pneumonia
You die "suffocated", not from holes... if it is of any consolation...

So, unless you had pulmonitis a while ago and you were insufficiently treated, you should afterwards to a pulmonary exam, just in case. Unless they are elder people, usually there is an underlying pathology for so severe cases. Either a immunitary deficit or chronic pulmonary obstructive disease (like emphysema, chronic bronchitis, common is smokers) or asthma. Either that or simply you were waiting for days with 39C fever and difficulty in respiration thinking "it's a cold, it will pass".

Don't worry, there are multiple classes of drugs that will work on resistant S. Pneumoniae. Anyway, have a quick recovery. But unless you did the last part (waiting for days thinking "it will pass"), i 'd visit an expert afterwards to do a spirometry. Just to see if your lungs function and are ventilated normally under normal conditions.

The problem, and reason it nearly killed me was how fast it happened. the doctor said if my wife had waited another 6 hours it would have been a coin flip so to speak. When I came of life support and woke up, he told me it was the same thing that got Jim Henson. I looked it up and read 'ulcerated lungs'

There is not anything wrong with my immune system so the 'why' is still not answered and not likely to be.

they showed me my chest x-rays and it looked like one solid white mass. the questionable procedure was the hospital releasing me while my O2 sat was @ 78. So while my lung capacity is back to normal, there are more questions than answers.

I didn't even know who this Henson is, but from what i understand, he had all the complications he could have ever have from S. Pneumoniae. The "ulcers" aren't the norm, they are caused when the inflammation goes on to form multiple abscesses, which later break and a "cavern" (more commonly understood as ulcer) remains. For this to happen, usually the disease must go unchecked protracted. Normally, this infection isn't destructive to the lung tissue. Ultimately Henson i understand died from Streptococcic shock syndrome, which basically becomes systemic disease and ends ups in MODS (multiorgan failure syndrome). Your case didn't go that long, maybe, you have an abscess but the fact you say that your X-rays show one solid white mass, indicates that you "simply" had the infection spread in the entire lung, as opposed to a lobe (which is the most common). The "mass", is because of the "hepatization" you see in that link i posted. The lung takes the consistencyu of liver, hence it appears "white mass" in X-ray. The real effect, is that gas exchange is compromised (you can't take in oxygen and can't expell carbon dioxide). Which is why your O2 saturation was low. Why your hospital released you with 78% saturation, is in deed a question.

Anyway, don't panic, you had the same cause with Henson, but Henson went all the way to get every single complication he could get, up to the point that it was no longer just a lung disease. Yours stayed in the lungs, but spreaded more than usually does, which is why it was threatening. Right lung has 3 lobes, left has 2. Usually, S. Pneumoniae, takes out 1 lobe before diagnosis. If you say your X-Ray was all 1 big white mass, it was in all 5 lobes. That's why you got close call. But your case wasn't the same as Henson's.

Have a quick recovery and fear not. When it comes to antibiotic resistance, S. Pneumoniae isn't even the worst around. biggrin.gif

Where were you when I needed you? LOL

Jim Henson was the creator of the muppets BTW, and the voice of Kermit and about half the other characters
