(tested many, many times). all in all the two 7850's should do much better, but there's the smoothness factor to worry about on top of the usual crossfire support in games. maybe sell the gpus?

I used the 14.2 drivers most recently but even with older drivers I never had any frame stutter. Single or triple monitor. Played several games. Bf4, bf3, d3, ESO, black flag, crysis

I actually do have two lol, I really don't need that much power tho, seeing as I don't game a ton. Plus I don't want to buy a new $80 power supply haha. Thanks

Well, what are you trying to do with the computer? You might be best off just selling one of the 7850s and both of the 580s. You could make a pretty penny and still have what you need.

I actually don't have the 560ti sig rig, never updated my rig but it's an i5 2550k and 8gb ram, and a 480 (which I sold to a friend) to cover the cost of these cards.

I'd personally sell the 7950's before the mining craze is over and use the 580's until the next gen comes out with a flagship

I was thinking that too. I'm getting by okay with a single 480, I just wanted something with a bit more vRam, in Bioshock Infinite I was running into vRam limits w/o any AA or anything turned on. How well does a single overclocked 7850 do against a single overclocked 580?

I'd honestly say that if you have the space/power supply go for two 7850's, sure the performance isn't as good as a single 580 but it's less then a third worse but you get two cards. As long as you can keep them cool aswell it will be superior to a 580 3GB. As you've mentioned the downside is that the 580 has 3GB compared to 2GB but it's not a massive issue today.

Another issue is that the 7850's are maxed out, I.E you don't have any upgrade path (SLi/CF), because there's a limit of two 7850's, whereas you'll only have 1 580 and can get another later.

I haven't checked power consumption, but the 7850's are bound to use more power I would imagine being two cards running over a 580 but I may be wrong on that, as that has a factor as to your choice I'd look into that yourself (look at the 580's specs, and a 7850 CFX Review).

You do have the factor of drivers, but honestly I have had many Crossfire AMD setups and sure it has it's problems but so do nVidia when you SLi too; The thing that I've found is games that need crossfire (I.E New games, BF4, Metro. ETC) have the support and older games/easier to run games (Need for speed, etc) don't run well but you can run the game just the same off 1 card if you disable crossfire.

If you want a simple plug and play go for a 580, if you want a better overall performance/experience go with the AMD cards. Again make sure you check the power consumption since that is important to you.
