I would bench mark both if I were you, but anandbench has a decent comparison here:

As far as overclocking goes, 580 lightning will probably win card vs card, but I am not convinced that the difference would terribly noticeable.

If it was a regular 580 I'd probably just choose the 7850, but the fact that it's the flagship MSI 580 makes me like it more. It has that uniqueness that all of us computer enthusiast like haha. My brain says 7850 but my heart says 580......

You really should give them both a shot across a few games. It might be a pain switching out, but, you'll be happy you did once you get the results.

I had a single 7850 that is now in my ol'ladys system, it worked pretty well, though, I needed more power. I'm sure 2 of them would more than handle anything you throw at them.

I haven't used a 580, but, I have a 780 and personally find the Nvidia drivers to be troublesome. That's just how the drivers work out for me, some say AMD give them issues, I never had any issues with AMD drivers, but the drivers for the 780 have been a pain.

Try them both out.

its a no-brainer. HD 7850 OC matches GTX 580 OC. R7 265 which is a HD 7850 at 925 mhz is 5% slower than GTX 660.

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/65390-amd-radeon-r7-265-review-9.html

HD 7850 at 1 Ghz matches the GTX 660 which is on par with GTX 580. the HD 7850 (120w) draws less than half the power of the GTX 580 (250w). even a HD 7870 draws 100w less than GTX 580.

the 3GB on GTX 580 is not of much use as you don't have enough GPU horsepower to run at very high settings at 1440p.

This is why I love OCN, since I have both I'll play around with benchmarks and overclock a bit, but it looks like I may just pick the 7850s. Rep'ed
