[UK] DDR3-1600 8 GB chips much more expensive since this time last year?

Thread Starter
In March 2013, I bought an 8 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 module for around £35 (new, from Ebuyer).

Such modules (from any company) now seem to be around £58+ at the moment (March 2014).

Any idea why? eh-smiley.gif

DRAM is a commodity. It has supply and demand curves like any other product. In this particular case, DDR4 is on the horizon and manufacturers are starting to scale back on DDR3 production so that they don't have huge backlogs.

Also, DDR3 prices were at or below cost for many years. Manufacturers, in an attempt to undercut one another, gave us the outstanding prices we saw on DRAM for awhile. That cannot be maintained forever of course. Eventually, prices had to rise to cover costs, and thus they have.
