[Razer] New Razer Blade with GTX 870M and 3200x1800 IGZO IPS Display Announced - Page 8

I´m from Finland and some reason Razer don´t ship laptops to here. My cousin is going to USA next month and I´m thinking that I will buy new Razer Blade and put his hotel address to shipping address. Could it work? I´m really clueless how that kind of things working in USA... My english isn´t so good and "contact us" section in the Razers site needs contact no(???) so I´m not able to find this information anywhere.

In my case this laptop looks just like perfect. I need portable, high-performance laptop with battery that lasts whole school-day. Good gaming-experience is not necessarily but always better. Macbook Pro is only laptop sold in Finland that passes my criterions but even base model costs 2050 euros when this Razer Blade with 256gb ssd will be only 1750 euros.

No that's not possible (well it's possible, but wouldn't be recommended). The reason 1:4 works is because you are doubling both horizontal and vertical resolutions, so each pixel would just be displayed as two pixels in each dimension. 1:2 would require multiplying horizontal and vertical resolutions by sqrt(2), which would either not be a whole number or be some obscure number which wouldn't allow for a direct pixel translation, which introduces aliasing.

Battery life of a full school day is not much realistic for a 14" laptop with a mid-high end dedicated GPU.

Even when the IGP is active, the circuit of the GTX should be consuming a tad of power over IGP-only systems.
The "standardized" rMBP tests that do show 7-7:30hr of batter life, are based on very light workloads (and ofc referring to systems with IGP only graphics).

Depending on what your school tasks are, I would think that even 3hr of "real" usage will be a good goal, more than 3hr a pretty good performance, unless all you do is casual browsing with good WiFi signal strength.

i7 17" "gaming" laptops with similar GTXs last less than 2-3hr under light photoshop, Sketchup etc workloads (and they don't flex 100% of their performance either, that's only when plugged in by default).
I would expect the 14" to last less (doubt that the smaller screen compensates for the also smaller battery). Modifying the defaults in powermanagement to allow for full CPU/GPU engagement for gaming on battery power, should yield less than 2hr of operation when the battery is still "young", with this time to gradually diminish to an hour (if that).
It is a 100W+ TDP GPU + another 20ish for the CPU + screen / SSD and the such...this should be a 120W+ rig @ full tick.

Sure, it won't be ticking @ 100% even under most games, but 70Wh battery can last 40 min or so under the max theoretical load.

You should not ask of this machine to be a MBA, not even a rMBP 13.

I would still prefer the yoga 2 pro.

Higher pixel density

longer batter life.

Weighs less.

I don't know of I want that high res a screen on a laptop. On a Mac sure since Macs do display scaling really well. But windows still has issues with it. And I would prefer to game at native res. not that I'm getting this anyway.

I said that my english is not so good. biggrin.gif School-work was bad term, maybe taking notes is better? Nevertheless I checked reviews about 2013 version ant they say that battery-life with light using is about 5-8 hours (depends on test). I can live with 5 hours.

I have Air now. This machines battery last whole day. I can downgrade that to school-day if i get more performance.

E. Read wrong.

"Capable" is relative and subjective; a console like the Xbox One is "capable" of it's intended purpose atm, which ironically will deliver a similar gaming experience to this machine in 2014 (effectively displaying medium graphics settings, yet utilising a reduced resolution to maintain 60fps), yet actually still be somewhat relevant in 3-4 years too since it's ecosystem is not pushing above and beyond what it can deliver currently.

My argument is nothing like your scenario. A 670/760 is plenty capable of playing justifiable resolutions today, whilst not being overpriced, somewhat upgradable (SLI), and modular/exchangable.

I'd be fine with Medium to High settings, and the portability is critical for me. I travel extensively (100k air miles a year), so this is a laptop I'd be pleased with.

There is a market for this laptop, though the pricetag is, unfrotunately, very high. But a 17", 14 lb beast has no appeal for me, since I'm constantly lugging it from plane to plane. Even my current 15.6 sager pisses me off.
