What do you mean....UFB anyone? Many smaller towns have UFB (fibre) now.....

Same here in NZ:

It should be 130 m/bit download / 50 m/bit upload too but they screwed up my config and I haven't had time to call them and change it.

Also the merging of Telcos actually helped lower prices here in NZ. Don't blame the merging of telcos, blame government policy. But no politics people, but that's the real cause, not merging of telcos.

The fastest you can get on a residential plan is 200 m/bit here. Not to mention NZ actually has proper 4G

e.g.

And that around typical speed for a LTE 4G enabled phone (90 -> 100 m/bit). And we can switch providers whenever we want unlike the locking in the US.

He's definitely isn't posting the complete picture of NZ.

I wonder if the US internet infrastructure will ever be #1 in the world?

What has to change and when will it happen?

A lot has to change and it will never be. Number of reasons, mainly political that we won't say here.

The only program that does is GasBuddy fortunately. And Sprint has the weakest coverage ever, at their current rate I'll probably see 4G when 10G comes out. rolleyes.gif

Used to be that way for me here. Barely got 3G in a lot of areas and the areas I did, it was very slow.

Now I get 3G coverage EVERYWHERE and it is not slow. Also most everywhere I go now, has 4G coverage and it is always 10 mbit or faster. At work, I used to get very slow 3G coverage, where I could barely load a webpage...heck it even went to 1x sometimes... Now it is 4G and very fast.

Needless to say, they have improved a lot for me.

Didn't hardly make any difference for me. My results from Durham (50 miles away) were 19ms ping, 21.73 down, 2.25 up. When I used a server in Las Vegas, more than 2,000 miles away, I got:

Masayoshi is comparing US speeds with speeds back home in Japan. That's like comparing a Trolley with a bullet train.

Not sure if serious, you do know the only thing holding Sprint at #3 is their coverage/speeds, right? They beat Verizon when it comes to prices, but Verizon's speed and coverage beats them by far. Them buying T-Mobile would give them more infrastructure and resources tom compete.

Having used internet and paid for internet all over the world I can honestly say that the US is pretty dang bad. Sure some major metro areas are okay but for the most part the local monopolies are sucking people to death with no regulation. The FCC NEEDS to define the ISP's as common utilities for there to even be ANY hope of getting off the bottom. Japan is fortunate because of the relatively small land area they have to provide service for. The have just over 33% of the US population in an area smaller than california. Same goes for many european countries on a smaller scale.

1Gb fiber in Japan with land phone line was 6500yen (~$60)
60Mbs/cable tv/phone line in NLD is 53 euro. (~$70) I'm cheap and didn't opt for the 150+ connection for 20 euro more.
My wife and I have full data and unlimited minutes on both our phones for under 100euro a month. I don't miss my Verizon bill one bit...
