Again lots of help guys. Thank you thumb.gif

Could you please recommend me a good program that can run windows programs? I was using playonmac but it started giving me an error. Is there a better one out there?
The best VM software out there is split between Parallels and VM Ware Fusion. I use Parallels at work and my wife has Fusion at home. Both are very comparable.

The one perk to Parallels is that you get free updates. Fusion it only happens over the course of the year you purchased the product and then it stops. That is what I understand anyway.

Thank you. I am downloading the trials of both programs now.

However I am wondering if there is a different problem on my system.

The windows program was working great until today. All of a sudden it started crashing before startup (the windows program, not playonmac software)

I uninstalled everything and set it up again and same thing.

I than downloaded Winebottler and again the application never worked.

Sux. I also do not understand anything from the debug file.

What program are you trying to run? Wine and similar programs will mostly only run "simple" windows programs. I've had good luck with Wine/Wine Bottler since I don't run any windows programs that are graphic-intensive or ones that utilize audio or anything like that.

Oh, and do you have X11 set up in order to run Wine? X11 is no longer shipped with Mountain Lion or Mavericks, as I understand it.
X11 is not shipped but it is easily downloaded in the App Store. It is a few GBs in size so that is probably the reason. I do not have familiarity really with the "playonmac" software so I cannot speak to it. I am familiar with the others though and they are solid. If you are doing some heavy lifting with the other software then it may be in the drivers that link it to the Mac. I really don't know for sure though. With parallels and vm ware you may even be able to import the current config and get it up and running quickly.

Yes yes X11…bow to the power of *nix and the command line!

Parallels is nicer IMO because the integration of both OS's is more seamless. For example, you can drag and stop between them or insert a flash drive and it will ask you what OS you want it mounted under However, with a less savvy user like my Mom who just needs a few old Windows apps it often confuses the hell out of her. She still doesn't grasp the fact that she is essentially running "two computers in one".

As long as we're talking about virtualization, don't forget about VirtualBox. It's a free alternative to Parallels and VMware, and I don't think you're missing out on too much in terms of features.

And RE: X11, if you get XQuartz (just do a search), it's not too big (definitely not GBs large.)
That is true. X11 was mentioned and that is true that others are smaller. X11 includes iOS simulators and stuff like that.

I am trying to run a program called Metatrader. It is a required platform for my work. It ran perfectly fine until today. The thing is my government blocked twitter, youtube and disabled any DNS to be working besides the Turkish ISPs so I installed lots of stuff, VPNs etc and none worked so with the PC mentality I have, I just reformatted my Mac Mini.

I am installing playonmac now and will report.

EDIT : This whole thing proved me that I need Time Machine right away. So I have a 600GB USB2.0 HDD and I want to partition it. 200GB for pictures and videos that will only be stored on that HDD and never on the mac mini and remaining 400GB as Time Machine as I believe I will never have more than 100GB of software on my mac mini.

So the question is how can I partition my external HDD (without deleting the contents if possible) and can I run time machine on the 2nd partition of that HDD.

The HDD is formatted on journal format.
