New Rig- Which to choose?

Thread Starter
Hello fellow OCN members, I am planning on building myself a new rig at some point and am caught up between some choices. This machine will have a few functions: I want it to last as long as possible (look at my sig rig that's what I still use!), excellent for gaming now and in the future, and other basic processes including watching movies and whatnot. I want the budget to be around 1500-1700 CAD for just the tower.

I have two builds here that you guys can compare and tell me which is a better option. Since I want this to last as long as possible I am leaning towards the build with the 4770k and 16gb of ram as opposed to the 4670k and 8gb of ram, but you guys can tell me what you think. Second, I don't need a H100 or anything fancy as the EVO will be fine for me since I only intend to do a mild OC and am more interested in playing games than benchmarking with crazy overclocks. Second, is the 780 a viable option over the 290 and more specifically, did I choose a good 780? The case might be swapped with the corsair 450D as I love the obsidian series and am waiting for a mid-sized version of the series. Also, I plan to buy a QNIX 27" 1440p monitor to do the video card some justice biggrin.gif. Again, if you guys can shave the cost in some places please do! But, I would like to stick to intel and asus for the mb. Thanks everyone, much appreciated thumb.gif

10$ more and you can get 100 watts more and a way better PSU

http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=94405&vpn=220-G2-0750-XR&manufacture=eVGA

But unless you are going SLI or overvolt you can power those systems with a 550 watts

I was waiting for you to post something on the PSU Shilka biggrin.gif I live in Canada, so I can't use ncixus.

What about this one? I don't plan on SLI or overvolt and this is cheaper than the Seasonic G

Haha nobody really notices you said Canada did they wink.gif

Since this is just for gaming, the first rig is pretty much perfect. You could get a cheaper motherboard, like an AsRock Extreme 4, but why bother.

Also the EVGA supernova's in general are garbage, leave em alone! That seasonic is amazing.

Everything looks like a fairly decent price honestly. Though for the PSU, you could get this http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11180AC9616&vpn=CMPSU-650HX&manufacture=CORSAIR and be perfectly fine!

Thanks, I'll look into it. I did see a 650W XFX XTR but isn't that the same as a seasonic G?

Thanks for the response, so you don't think the 4770k and 16gb of ram would be beneficial in terms of longevity of the rig?
