I can see this working really well. If you are able to install an intake fan in your case which blows cool air directly onto the VRM, then you have the performance of the G10 by NZXT, but with the added bonus of the backplate to cool the VRM from behind too. In such a configuration I can see the VRM temps to be a lot better with this Accelero cooler than the G10. In addition, it appears this takes up no more than 2 PCI slots.

In Germany it's available for pre-order for 80 EUR via Mindfactory and should be available next week. I'm giving this serious consideration.

The installation PDF makes a good read. Seems like a lot of thought has gone into the VRM cooling backplate.

Hey guys,

New the forum but as I'm building my first computer (and was looking at the Accelero Hybrid II) I thought I could join in and contribute/learn something. Nothing will come of this until someone reviews everything but here's what I've gathered:

If you look at the install manual the heat-sink touches all the stuff that gets hot except the core. I've read that small heat-sinks and a fan made huge VRAM differences so maybe a giant heat-sink will do just as well (and surely you could put some copper ones on the front). Maybe instead of using that "Foam Black" pad on the back of the core (which prevents any heat transfer between the core and the heat-sink/VRAM) you could get some thermal glue or something and let the water-cooler also cool the heat-sink. However, I could see this easily working the other way and just heat the heck out of the heat-sink and burn up the VRAM.

Some digging around on their website got me a thermal photo (whatever value that is since it's from the company). So I just threw that next to a GTX 780 if you want to take a look. In the photo you can the VRAM isn't getting too hot. If I knew which way this was oriented it would help more. And this is hopefully assuming the front of the board. If it's the backside...well, god knows how bad everything looks on the other side... But I see no hints of the heat-sink on the backside or the water-block on the front-side.
HeatDispersionandAcceleroHybridII 476k .jpg file

I was also looking to see if maybe one of Arctic's other GPU cooling solutions could be combined with this (I wouldn't pay it lol) – eg. take one of their GPU fans without the heat-sink combo and throw it next to the water-block. However, I think all their air-coolers for that purpose do have a block/heat-sink/terminology directly on the core so modding it wouldn't even be possible. I was also thinking it might be possible to throw a G10 (which has its own VRAM heat problems in some cases) on also and pick up a nice fan for it. Although, I highly doubt they would be compatible as the Accelero seemingly adds some clamps to keep everything in place.

Hopefully this helps the discussion – but this seems to be as far as we'll be able to go/assume until someone actually tests it. Like I said, I'm building a PC soon so it's kinda a bummer waiting it out until something shows up. I'm just excited.

Well,

I can maybe leave the stock Heatplate on the Card to cool the front, and put the Heatsink on the back to cool the back as well,

My Issue is, I have other cards above my GPUs.

The reason they went with a backplate heatsink, is every GFX Card (or 99% of them) have a flat back.

So the heatsink can be mounted via Thermal Padding to the back of ANY GFX Card,

to mount on the front, you have to make custom designs for every non reference GPU.

I'm not sure how this mounts to AMD Boards, Shim or is the Plate pressed out to fit the 7900 GPUs?

I'd look for a V1 on Ebay, and just use that.

I just installed this on a r9 290x from asus and have been running it for a day and after 24hours of vertmining at 450khs my GPU core is sitting at 67c over the stock coolers 91c!

Gpuz reported VRM temps in excess of 100c and now they are a cool 80c with the HYBRID.

i have a cooler master HAF stacker 915r (YES MINI ITX) and the heat sink does get *some* air but not tons so it is very effective. If you know anything about water cooling then know this. find me a full plate water block that has active vrm cooling on the back side? yes you get some on the front side but not the backside..... THEY DONT MAKE EM haha i have 4 7990s all running xspc full water blocks with fancy 30$ back plates and this accelero hybrid comes very close in performance. My water cooling loop can be seen in my posted threads. i went ALL OUT and spent 1800$ to cool 4 7990s, YES 8 GPUs and could not be happier my temps sit at 51-57c on all cores mining 100% load. With the artic its only a couple more degrees for WAY less money...

If you dont jump on this product you are stupid, this will sell out fast! i had to get mine on newegg because amazon was SOLD OUT day 4. Newegg has a couple left so act fast.

I bought mine. If these work out it's a hell of a lot cheaper than what I was planning to spend on a custom loop.

Very good choice! Most stores are running out of stock. I plan on putting this on the VRM heatsink.

http://store.antec.com/Product/cooling-cooling_fan/spot-cool/0-761345-75018-9.aspx

To be honest together the spot cool and Artic accellero might be just shy of a custom loop! I am kinda mad I went and built expensive loop.

Thanks for the feedback. This sounds very promising. The only issue I have now is that the protective film that goes between the PCB and VRM heatsink....what happens when you change your GPU? The protective film will not longer match the PCB layout of the new GPU so you would need a new protective film and cut out a new template. I've emailed Arctic cooling whether they will supply spare protective films for when we change out GPU.

Yeah, my EK custom loop came in at 325 EUR to cool the GPU. I can get this Accelero Hybrid for 80 EUR. So I decided to not purchase the EK for obvious reasons.

That is a good point you bring up. It would be kindy of crappy if they made you purchase an entirely new kit just to get a 1$ piece of film. I was personally planning on spending upwards of 800$ on a loop after including the cost of the GPU blocks, radiators, res, pump, fittings, fans, and all the accessories. So at a measly 260$ for 2 of these that is huge savings. I could purchase a 3rd 290x with the leftover money.

Why exactly do we need the spot cool? I thought the Accelero already cooled the VRMs?
