New Office Layout "Sanctuary of Technology"

Hey Guys,
I've been combing through the forum office threads for the last few days gathering ideas for my new Office. It's going to be in a 10' x 10' room and unlike my current office, which is also for gaming and entertaining, its going to be purely for computer use and Im not going to worry about trying to make room for anyone else to work in the same room. That considered I'm trying to come up with a killer setup to maximize the use of the room for my equipment.

I'd like a desk that goes from wall to wall, since Im using a 6 monitor setup (below) and need at least 59" across to fit the bottom 3 27" monitors (though I'd rather keep the min around 75in). Since I plan on doing lots of modifications (like draw add ins, cable management drop downs, keyboard shelf, under-the-desk peg board for router and USB hub) I considered just getting the wood for the desk, but I'd have to bulk up my tools for the cutting and sanding and such. So, Im not sure how much I'd be saving at that point.

I also have concerns over the mounting the monitors. Right now they look kind of sloppy. I tried building a pipe based stand for the top 3 monitors but the weight turned out to be too much for a freestanding base of the size I was using. Any ideas there would be nice too, for tighter grouping of the 6 displays.

Right now, Im leaning toward the "Linnmon" Table Top at Ikea for $45.

Then I could add a leg in the middle at the back for support and maybe the storage unit/Draw on the sides instead of extra draws under the desk next to the keyboard tray. That whole setup would run about $210 from iKea, not counting the modifications, but it seems a simple solution and Im looking for an overclock solution. Go big or go home right.

Any advice as to alternative or ideas to kick things up a notch would be greatly appreciated. As thanks for reading and replying I'll add some office porn of my current and intended monitor layout.

---- The Mods ----
- 2 In Desk Power Feeders
- Keyboard Tray
- 1 Hide Away Outlet Station

- 16 outlet power strip mounted on wall behind desk

Recent setup before moving things around a bit.

Monitor Use:
- Original Phase: 3 Monitors on PC; 2 on Work Computer and Macbook Pro
- Previous Phase: 2 Monitors on My Work Computer, Expanded to 3 with Virtual Display, 3 on my Personal Computer and 1 for my PC
- Currently: able to Get 3 Monitors on One Computer and 4 on the Other
- Next Phase: 5 Monitors on Both Computers, which only one active at a time or a 4/2 split if both active at the same time

And for all you Mac haters out there, I didnt get lost and stumble into Windows land. I've only recently shifted to Mac because my work is predominately in Mac now so it helps to know my way around and I get a discount. That and I have major ventilation issues in my current Office. I'm still rocking a Corsair Obsidian 800D big boy with a modded top and dual loop water cooling for gaming, but that kicks up too much heat to use atm. So its going into the theatre area where the 70in projected screen will be and more room for the heat to dissipate.

Looks awesome.
Do you think that Linnmon type might not be wide enough?
Maybe look at the Galant?

Also I think the Linnmon top series are hollow, where as the Galant are solid(still fiberboard, but at least solid)
If you are putting all those monitors on there I don't know if the hollow desk is a good idea.

Also I recommend the adjustable A legs over the T legs.

The LINNMON I'm looking at is the 78" one, so its longer than the Galant, but good point about the material. I will need to look into its weight capabilities. Good point on the legs too, I'll take that into consideration, but Im considering doing a cabinet/Storage Unit at the Ends for the legs to make better use of that space and then an ADILS leg in the middle for support. Something along the lines of LINNMON / ALEX.

I'd rather have a single surface extend the whole length of the wall through (10'), so I may just look for a piece of wood and the iKea storage/legs for the support.

Thanks for the suggestions! smile.gif
