Both on sale need buy soon and im wondering is evo that much faster because i can get m500 for 50$ less.

Not ill be using ether as my sole storage with windows im not big downloader so i can easily last with 480g and not need a secondary drive i only plan to play games and stream and maybe download odd tv show or movie but ill delete them after im going mass storage.

Also windows 7 vs 8.1 for ssd? Im buying os as well would 8.1 with classic shell be faster os? Plus i think dx12 is coming out soon and likely too be only win 8 maybe.

Also not sure if anyone here knows or can comment on this:

From review on M500 so since this is my main drive maybe it would be better? Since ill be filling it up more as reviewer said m500 actually did better when drive had alot storage on it.

"The saving grace when it comes to the M500's performance, at least compared to Samsung's offerings, is worst case IO consistency in a full drive state. If you have the luxury of keeping around 20% of your drive free, Samsung maintains its performance advantage. If, on the other hand, you plan on using almost all of your drive's capacity - the M500 does have better behavior than even the 840 Pro. It's an interesting tradeoff, but going forward I feel like we're going to have to start distinguishing between both usage models. The M500 definitely isn't the best when it comes to delivering both high performance and consistent IO, that title continues to belong to Corsair with its Link_A_Media based Neutron drive. But among the current crop of non-SandForce tier 1 SSD manufacturers, the M500 does reasonably well"

You can find all many answers to your questions thru browsing the web.

DX12 will take a while and yet nobody knows if you will need new hardware for
running it or not.. so you got to wait.

To the SSDs.. browse for benchmarks and reviews to see which is faster and / or
if there are some other pros and cons to check it with your needs.

Hope this helps a bit.

I can always look at reviews but i rather have views of people who have samsung or crucial benchmarks are nothing in most cases.

I wouldn't pay $50 more for the EVO. The M500 is a fine drive.

Yea and when M500 gets filled to 50% capacity or more its actually one fastest drives aparently only faster drive is 840 pro. Big appeal of all M500 drives lower cost G and they dont slow as much as evo when you fill them up seems like there meant as a main drive evo is a thing you want os not as storage and m500 is something to put all your stuff on if you want.

In real life, you will not notice the difference in speed with the purposes you want it to have. Just get Intel for the 5 year warranty and reliability

Windows 8 is far better optimised for everything, including SSDs. the Windows 8 haters don't know what they are talking about really.

Unless you are transferring large files / lots of files often, the speeds won't matter in a SSD, unless it's a Sandforce based controller which slows down after you start filling it up 70+% and more.
The Intel 530 is one of, if not, the only Sandforce-based controller SSD that doesn't slow down once it starts filling up.
Anything more speed wise is e-peen.

That said, for the price, the M500 will be fine. But if you can, It's far better to go for a smaller SSD and then a secondary mass storage drive.

Ok i decided get 840 evo 500g done deal and ordered. Not sure if i should get windows 8.1 though i had windows 7 so it would be upgrade there is no real performance difference in ssd speeds i rather just do more tweaking in win 7 instead spending 100$.

One more thing Is samsung magician a good tool to use? It has one click optimization for max performance should i use that or tweak my self a different way?

Curious-
Did Magician install, work OK?
