need better CPU? or just GPU? - Page 3

I think my PII X4 is faster than that 4300 and i would not even think of pairing it with my 290 even if it unlocks to a Six core oc'ed to 4.2GHz.

Quad with a stock 7970

Hex with a 7950 oc'ed to 7970 GHz speeds

edit: The 7970 is powerful enough . . . it is your cpu that isn't.

If your temperatures are good, try overclocking your processor before investing in a new one. Your processor is the bottleneck.

this is a copy/paste from my other topic but the same question apply here, to be honest I forgot I created this topic of I would have never created the other one here

well I have just been informed that all AMD boards are only PCI-E 2.0 not 3.0

I have looked at the mobo and the box and nowhere does it say PCI-E 3.0 so I assume its 2.0 since its labeled as "Gen 2" maybe a marketing tactic so when you look at them it doesent jump out at you and you just think because it says USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 on the box in huge letters that the PCI-E will be 3.0

well it seems to not be 3.0

so when I was asking about for gaming does it matter if its intel or amd - well it matters if amd only has pic-e 2.0

is there something I am not understanding here, how come no one has mentioned to me here that it wasnt pci-e 3.0?

so I guess I do need a new computer for gaming even though this one is brand new

have to build an i5 I guess unless there is something I am getting wrong?

Just run it in DirectX 9.

Change the ’r_api #’ value that is located in the %APPDATA%\Local\4A Games\Metro LL\(numbers)\user.cfg file. In order to run the game under DX9, change it to a 0 value.

That is a decent performance boost without any upgrades needed.
