Hmmm, why would a connector require changes to the logic on the Hawaii core? wouldn't it just be the physical interface?

DP and HDMI have been 4 and 3 channels respectively for some time now. DP is well a displayport signal and HDMI is TMDS. The logic for this is on die just like the logic for the Pci-e 3.0 interface is.

well that sucks, the 880 better have DP1.3, HDMI 2.0. Same goes for the 390x as well

Yeah I know I myself found it majorly dissapointing to see that great driver for extra displayports that AMD was driver to be smashed in this ultra high end card. Who on earth would need a HDMI port and 2 DVI ports and only 1 displayport and that for a card that was specifically aimed for high resolution(abundant raster units).

I just hope next gen cards will be making more use of DP and just put some adapters in the box. I have high hopes that in 5 years something similar to Dockport or maybe Dockport itself gives high bandwidth and a universal accepted standard for both consumers as enthusiasts.

So this card is basically 2 290X's, but without the crossfire limitations?

Well DVI is a dead standard and should be fazed out by the end of 2014/2015. I'm just hoping that standard IO becomes 3 DP and 1 HDMI, but preferably for AMD especially 5 mDP and 1 HDMI thumb.gif

Displayport is for PCs, HDMI is for HDTVs. (In fact I remember an Intel i3 laptop listing a 25" 1080p PC monitor as a TV when connected via HDMI)

Dropping DVI is a mistake when all the Korean 1440p are DVI.

Another thing to note is HDMI 2.0 supports 4K at 60Hz but anything before that supports 30Hz max. HDMI also has royalties involved. Note that not even the newly launched GTX 750 TI has HDMI 2.0.

Displayport 1.2 supports 60Hz 4K.
