Help picking a good budget sound card? - Page 2

I really like my Creative Sound Blaster Z card. I bought the vanilla version without the mic.

If you have the same option I'd go that route. Plenty of cussing and discussing about problems with the Creative Mic and the control panel options.

I'm using an aftermarket Zalman clip on mic and using the Creative mic input. After some fiddling in the Creative control panel and is well.

Really a great card if you can find it at the right price.

If you're looking to just listen to music then I would suggest the Musiland Monitor 02US, you can find it for about 100$ on ebay.

If you want surround sound for games on a budget then I would get the Creative Soundblaster Z.

I can vouch for the Xonar DGX. It's a steal at around 30€ (sorry, Euro guy here). It powers most headphones decently, offers clean output and input. It's a great upgrade compared to most onboard solutions without breaking the bank.
As far as the driver goes, I haven't ran into major problems yet.

Thanks for the suggestion everyone. I'm going to try the Creative Sound Blaster Z. It looks great, has good reviews and the software should be excellent.

Rep to all.

.

hi

can i crash into your thread please?? ,, because i have been wondering around the same question ,,

do you think i will have better audio quality from SAR375 external sound card ( Asus Xonar DX for example or Creative Sound Blaster Z as suggested in this thread ) than the Asus Vi Hero on-board (8-Channel ROG SupremeFX Audio Codec (ALC1150))

My headset are Sennheiser PC 360 and my applications is mainly ( Games - Movies ) ,, a lot of them actually and a little bit of music

also ,, do you think that i should really care about all theseDolby stuff supported in the Asus Card compared to the Creative ?! is this really an advantage ?!

Thanks

My best "guess" is as the ALC1150 is about the best on-board audio, you might be "ok" with on-board audio, for now.
Unless your will to spend around $160 or more for a sound card and/or amplifier, might as well just use what you have.

Is it possible the Creative Labs Sound blaster Z ($75-$95) would be an improvement over on-board audio, yes.
But it might only be a slightly noticeable improvement.

It might be a better value to sell off the Senn PC360 and spend around $240 for better sounding headphones.

Thanks Tacoboy ,, that was helpful

i'm not planning on selling the Senn PC360 for now ,, and if the improvment is not greatly noticable i think i will stick whith the on-board audio ,, unless anybody else have another idea / suggestion for me

Regards
