Not trying to break that streak either so hrmph.

They had some marvelous boards in the late LGA 775 era. So did Gigabyte for that matter - I was spoiled for choice back then.

Rule of thumb for gigabyte boards: if you can put a SB based CPU in it, it's most likely a lackluster board.

They've gotten their act back together with Z87 but I don't think they'll ever be able to top the glory days of X58. That was where GB really shined.

^ probably two of the best boards ever made.

I'd love to see them repeat the success with X99 but I have my doubts. Then again asus will screw every overclocker with their outrageous prices and hardware that combines "l33t gamur" and extreme overclocking.

I was a little miffed that the ud9 came shortly after I got my ud7 but it's been great.

Hurghh... Want. But aren't they likely to introduce a new socket next year? DDR4 and a six-core is mighty tempting, however.

They did actually. Quite a few pins. Basically aside from the side "wings" on the package, the corners, the center where the chip capacitors are, and the notches where the socket alignment pins are, the entire bottom is completely covered in pins, unlike on SB-E and IB-E where there were gaps running down the sides.
See here: http://www.servethehome.com/haswell-ep-ivy-bridge-ex-ivy-bridge-ep-sandy-bridge-ep/

Edit: nuked because original owner of pic doesnt want it up here.

Arrangement of the pins has absolutely nothing to do with pin count...

Isn't that sort of what the "TUF" boards are?

Jesus, maybe Asus should spend less time on marketing and inventing stupid acronyms, and more time on after-sales support.
