with haswell supposedly coming out in a few months, the extreme should be releasing right along with it.

No doubt these will all be on your list of convenient exceptions, but the fact is that there are a lot of older (or not so old in the case of Skyrim) games stuck on one or two threads that have trouble keeping above at/above 60FPS (even UT2004 just barely maintains 60fps on a stock 2600k in heavy onslaught games), and now we're getting modern games that are well threaded, but just incredibly CPU intensive that also end up being bottlenecked. So in truth, your "most games" is a minority that fits in between those two other categories of CPU bottlenecked games.

What resolution are you running? How many Hertz? What GPU? Because if you're at 1080p 60Hz with a GPU around as fast as a HD7950 like me, I apparently have a magic 3570k..Crysis? GPU bottlenecked. Skyrim? GPU bottlenecked. Oblivion? GPU bottlenecked. Far Cry 3? GPU bottlenecked Seriously, playing Skyrim and my HD7950 is always above 90%, 3570k usually around 15-20%. (ie. Not even maxing out one core) I also saw a moderate gain in FPS from going to the i5 from my FX with both at 4.5Ghz. Even in Far Cry 3, I dropped my OC back to 4.2Ghz during Summer due to heat and didn't notice it at all but as soon as I have my GPU OC off it goes from being relatively smooth to stuttering like mad.

In most games, I honestly don't even see the difference between my 3570k at stock vs 4.5Ghz...I only really keep my OC because it makes waiting for new turns in late game Civ V, FtB and the various non-gaming tasks I do noticeably faster whereas with my HD7950, the difference between stock and overclocked is easily noticeable. (Even in FtB.)

Also, funny you mention that about the 2600k because one of my friends was just saying the other day that his 2500k is still at stock simply because he's never had any need to OC it.

my 2500K is still @ stock, I never need to OC it, most of the time my GTX570 is the one bottlenecking @ 1920x1200p.

I was almost decided to get 4930Kfor my second rig, but fall back and get a second hand i5-2400.

With Mantle/DirectX 12 around the horizon. I think these Intel i5 have no trouble keeping a pair of 780TI/290X fed @ 1920x1200p & 1680x1050p.

I ma actually eyeing on pair of budget maxwell 860. had i spend the money on 4930K setup, I probably need extra money to get an even more power GPU setup like GTX980SLI.

Haswell-E 8 core on gaming? With DirectX12 low level API coming? this CPU gaming platform could last easily a decade lol

You said "1080p60" in the post I quoted, so obviously that's what I'm going to be referring to isn't it? You might also notice that "60FPS" is written no less than three times in the post you just quoted. Higher refresh rates obviously increase the potential for CPU bottlenecking even further, and although I'm sticking to 60Hz for the sake of this argument because it's the prevailing refresh rate at the moment, high refresh rate monitors are becoming ever more common and you'd do well to bear that in mind.

Well perhaps you might consider that your experience with your particular GPU might not put you in the best position to go declaring that "most" games are GPU bound.

In 2011, my 2600k and GTX 580 were reasonably well balanced in games like Skyrim, in terms of GPU:CPU load ratio. Skyrim was GPU bound about as often as it was CPU bound. However, it's not 2011 any more. The GTX 580 equivalents of today have DOUBLED in performance. Think about that for a moment, and then compare it to the progress we've seen on the CPU front. Is the GTX 580 -> GTX 780 Ti stride in any way proportionate to the 2600K -> 4770K stumble? With that disparity, how would it be possible for processors not to become the primary bottleneck? And I haven't even mentioned dual/multi GPU solutions.

I'm a little suspicious of the terminology here. "Stuttering"? "relatively smooth" We're talking about framerates here, those being below 60FPS (the highest visible at 60Hz) representing a bottleneck.

Yeah, and for all I know he considers ~40FPS an acceptable average and encounters CPU bottlenecking every day without being aware of it.
