Artifacts except when gaming - hardware issue? (Windforce R9 290)

One of my Gigabyte Windforce 290s is displaying artifacts, horizontal lines especially when moving the cursor and around those areas. When I'm gaming I don't see a single error. What could be issue? Is this a clear RMA case or should I try something first? Both DVI outputs do this.

I get this with highly overclocked memory because the idle voltage cannot support the memory OC until the voltage is bumped up under load.

Yeah, that's the normal reason. Bumping the core voltage (if you are using AB) may help, since that is also applied during idle. If you aren't overclocking, though, I'd try to RMA the card.

Been running stock for the past weeks but it got pretty hot when I had another one underneath it with only one slot in between so it's very likely it got overheated.
