New monitor help!

Thread Starter
Hello all!

I am trying to pick a monitor so I can have a dual monitor setup, but not to necessarily play games on both screens at the same time. I would probably play games on one screen and watch a movie on the other and or do hw on one screen and watch a movie on the other.

I have a nice 150 dollar gift card to Amazon from work, and I wouldn't mind adding another 100 plus or minus a couple bucks if it meant getting a nicer monitor. But, overall it would be for gaming so if anyone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it!

I have been looking at the asus monitors(they are on sale and have rebates) but I have a Samsung monitor, and I read about benq monitors.. But I can't find enough difference to know which one I should go with.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Asus monitors are really solid, and there's quite a variety of them. They work very well, but they don't seem to have a whole lot of extra bells and whistles. I recently replaced my Asus monitor (I actually just sold it to a friend today) with three Dell Ultrasharps, which are somewhat fancy in comparison. They've just got a few extra features like a highly adjustable stand and four built-in USB ports.

However, I should first ask what size/resolution you are considering.

This is the monitor I previously owned:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236117

It's kinda the standard monitor at 1080p and 23". However since you say 24" and up, there are some other 24" monitors out there like this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236153

However, anything above 24" is basically a 27", and I personally think those should be more than 1080p (due to pixel density and all that). But once you go above 1080p, you're looking at spending a few hundred dollars, so I think that is out of the question for you. There are also 1200p monitors, but those are less common. And just do give you an idea of what's going on over at Dell, here are the Ultrasharps.

1080p: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260055
1200p: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260047
1440p: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260111

Also, take note that the Asus monitors I linked support HDMI, while the Dells (except for the 27 inch) do not. I hope this kinda narrows down your search.

The Dell P2414H is an awesome monitor. It can OC to 80Hz over a DP signal.

I appreciate the help! I changed the criteria a little bit.. I do want a 27 in monitor.. and I upped the price range too- about $350 at most but preferably the lesser the better!

These are two monitors I found. so I was wondering what you thought?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824260055&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=6146846&SID=1mt356m1mbd5f

or

Now I personally really like the Samsung. But idk. What do you think?
