The difference from ST to STX cannot be noticed, anyone who claims different is

a) Lying

b) Have lemon STX

I don't think EQ and Tubes count as "Science". XD So "Sometimes" probably means "Once in a blue moon."

EQ is fine if used right and is parametric. So are tubes when the circuit is properly designed.

read the last few pages, mmmm plenty of science from knowledgeable peeps.

I never said EQ wasn't fine, and a parametric equalizer is nothing new. Also, Tubes don't interest me in the slightest. The graphs are nice, but the bickering isn't.

the difference isn't an audible one, it was the ST's ability to add the daughter board, now the STX II gives you that same ability in a PCI-e configuration.

Wasn't it also a more accurate clock? Arguably inaudible but still a measurable improvement. It's both the same and also better at the same time.

HAHA!

Welcome to the world of audio. EVERYTHING is subjective.

He's also gotten rid of equipment repair bills, I know how he feels because I've done the same thing, no more repair shops for me (the HDMI board problems in some receivers are substantial - my son has a $1.5k brick in his home....now he wants to do what I did) wink.gif

I remember reading a professional review of the ST vs STX where the author claimed a difference could be heard.

I highly doubt I could.
