Hey, at least, in the world of audio I can have speakers in any colour... Wait a minute...thinking.gif

I could have sworn you could quantify nearly everything in the world of audio.

I could have sworn you could quantify nearly everything in the world of audio.

You can certainly measure differences in audio, to differentiate products. For an arbitrary example:

THD on version 1 was .00045%. And now with version 2 it's .000045%. THD is 10 TIMES what it was!

The measurement is easy. Proving there is an audible difference is much, much more difficult.

It usually comes down to; brand X sounds better to ME than brand Y, so I bought brand Y.

Anyone know when these are going to be available for purchase? I don't want to buy another ZxR, especially since the price went up.

Likely the same Mass release/Global availability as the previous Essence STX so perhaps by Summer/Fall of this year.

What would be the point of getting a soundcard over an external dac? I never understood why a soundcard would be a better option than say a magni/modi combo for the same essential price.

For starters, everything is in the same box (the computer case). It makes for a neater looking setup. In some case, there may not be anywhere convenient or sanitary looking to put an external DAC.

Multi-channel is the reason. The only multichannel DAC available is the exasound ex18 for $2k or the exa28 for $3300. There's also the Essence Evolve for about $250. All of the other DAC's are two channel.

Only those subjective observations tend to follow a pattern thus why there are standards set around them (and why pop tunes tend to follow a 4/4 beat for example).
