Don't hate, appreciate. If you think I'm choosing based solely on looks, then you're trolling... buttkick.giflachen.gif I currently own a STX and would like to possibly add 7.1 later. I do like that Asus listens to their customers and innovates the way they do.

I don't understand the need for a sound card anymore, its called use your digital out and connect to a REAL audio solution.

I guess it kinda makes sense for headphone owners who want a built in amp, rather than external.

I personally use optical toslink out to my 7.1 receiver. I can plug head phones into that if I choose to, or I can just use my massively over powered speakers to shake the house.

My reciever is older and doesn't support the HD audio codecs, otherwise I'd use Hdmi.

Go back and read the article. Of course my card doesn't support 7.1. The daughterboard on the STX II comes with the main card, not as a separate item.

Put on your glasses and take a close look at the new card and its specs. The differences aren't just cosmetic.

If the guy actuallly does believe looks are the only choice criteria, then he isn't trolling; he just doesn't know what he is talking about. From the Urban Dictionary:

Trolling

The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue. Trolling does not mean just making rude remarks: Shouting swear words at someone doesn't count as trolling; it's just flaming, and isn't funny. Spam isn't trolling either; it pisses people off, but it's lame.

The most essential part of trolling is convincing your victim that either a) truly believe in what you are saying, no matter how outrageous, or b) give your victim malicious instructions, under the guise of help.
Trolling requires deceiving; any trolling that doesn't involve deceiving someone isn't trolling at all; it's just stupid. As such, your victim must not know that you are trolling; if he does, you are an unsuccessful troll.

If by adding 7.1 later, you mean just adding a daughterboard to your current STX, you can't you would have to replace the main card also since the current one doesn't have the connection for the daughterboard. If that wasn't what you meant, ignore the first sentence of this paragraph.

They require external power which means they are still using PCI to PCIe adapters. i'd personally go for the legacy PCI my self just so i don't have to run a power cable to it. I've also seen/heard of a few reports of the PCIe version have some glitched the legacy PCI version don't have but, that was with xonar cards. and on that note do these have broken drives like the xonar? do they have unified drivers?

Tempting, but even if I could afford a new sound card I definitely could NOT afford headphones that would do a 600 ohm amp any justice. Besides, my Titanium HD is still going strong.

Yeah, it looks that way. I guess you could separate the strands, and braid the cable.

I'd love to do something like that, matter of fact I will pay someone if they were willing to do that for me.. As I do not posses the balls to do it myself. Do you know anyone that custom braids cables?

Read about the STX II before it was posted here, I'm well aware of the specs. Maybe you should read what people are replying to before jumping the gun. I was referring to his post,

MacG32 says he has a STX card I don't know why he's drooling over the STX II since the exterior looks exactly the same as the vanilla board, including the daughter board. And no I'm not trolling, it's a simple straightforward comment.

Most "gaming" sound cards? Yes. This is not strictly a gaming card, though it will perform much superior to an onboard one, it's primarily designed for PC-based HiFi.

but speaking from experience, Games sound awesome on them ;D

Might have to consider an upgrade to one, Cant stand the X-Fi...
