CM Storm QuickFire XT -- Do you own this?

What are your thoughts about this keyboard?

Personally, I was looking for something full size, somewhat minimal, no LED and high build quality.

My own CM Storm QuickFire XT will be arriving early next week, and I feel like a little school boy before Christmas morning. My guess is because I haven't had a mechanical keyboard in a couple of years, plus I have never owned brown switches before, so all that bundled up into a keyboard manufactured by Costar... wow, way to go Cooler Master for picking one of the highest quality keyboard manufacturers I know of.

So then, let's discuss!

Do you own this keyboard?

What do you like?

What do you dislike?

Thanks in advance thumb.gif

love mine

far from stock as you can see. ( older picture, I've done a few more changes since then, just don't have any newer pictures since its my keyboard I leave at work )

only complaints I have
- the 3 leds for caps lock, num lock and scroll lock are extremely bright, as in will hurt your eyes if you look directly into them. ( I've since replaced mine with some blue led's with resistors on them to match my paint ) They shine red halo's on my ceiling in a dark room.

- the front of the case near my spacebar has a little bit of flex, but I fixed it by making a shim out of a note card and sliding it inbetween the case to firm it up a bit.

- stock keycaps kinda suck, but its a cheaper end mech, so its to be expected, but its a standard layout, so all aftermarket sets fit.

Other than that, I love it.

Its my keyboard I use at work.

Woah, very impressive! I like all the mods you've made to it.

Thank you for your detailed response, it will definitely help me and other people out there smooth out any small kinks this keyboard has.

Much appreciated thumb.gif

I have this keyboard with the brown switches and i love it. My only gripe about that exact keyboard is it is not fully backlit, only gaming areas, but being as how you are looking for non backlit and asking about the switches themselves, I would say you're going to enjoy it.

the QF pro, is a much older board, ( the XT came out last summer ) and the OP wanted costar boards, and the pro is made by iOne, and does not match the quality of the CM-XT or QFR. it just feels a bit more cheap, and the lines of the keyboard do not really match the streamlined minimalism the OP is looking for. ( same reason I bought it, simple, clean and to the point. ) though I must say it looks odd seing them in black, i'm so used to my blue and other painted keyboards.

The XT ( and the QFR ) are nearly always my recomendations for first keyboards, for the price, they are hard to beat with no gimmicky features.

I encourage both you guys to join the official OCN mechanical keyboard club, lots of good keyboard talk and quick to answer any questions you may have.

wonderful information thank you. although for the price i paid for this keyboard brand new it is working very nicely. I must admit though i had the same keyboard brand new from micro center and a few keys after a week of use went bad, i returned for refund and got it for almost half the price on newegg shell shocker.

I've had the QuickFire Rapid for a couple of years. I'm a fan of compact keyboards so I have more desk space available. I purchased the QuickFire TK with blue switches and LED's a few weeks ago. I've been pretty pleased with it as well. The Rapid is still rock solid but I like the back lit keys for when the lights are off

yeah, one of the resons some people prefer the more expensive filco's to the coolermasters is the PCB and soldering work is much higher quality, ( but other than that nearly identical ) I've had I think 6 different CM boards, and one of them I needed to repair as a key was not always sending its input due to a bad solder job from the factory.

But as you can see, all the CM keyboards are easily customizable.

The TK is decent, though the layout kinda threw me off ( personal opinion )

Soon the new backlit verisons of the QFR and QF-XT will come out, no exact release date except 'early 2014'

Yup, cant wait for Topre keyboard from CM. IM presonally using CM QFR Ultimate browns. Awesome keyboard, nothing to complain about. XT is very simillar quality, just less options and no led's. Well and full size, which for me is another + for such low price.

Awesome! Happy to hear all Cooler Master owners (XT, KT, Pro) are enjoying their keyboards and having very little complaints.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and comments, sooo excited to get mine next week biggrin.gif
