hook it straight to the motherboard chassis fan connector. you will be fine. you will even be able to set a power curve for it

The CPU header on my board is limited to 12 watts. I would double check what that board can do before putting a pump on it.

That's messed up. You can see in the background of that picture that the pump should have a molex with power instead of the power pins shoved into the 3 pin fan connector. I would be leery of hooking that up to your motherboard: don't want to burn out a fan header.

Yeah the max limit on all of the fan headers on both my MSI Z87 XPower and my ASUS RIVBE is 1 amp (12w) and I would be really leery to actually put anywhere near that amount of load on any of them. I definitely wouldn't put an 18w DDC on one, and these are supposedly the top-of-the-line flagship mobos from both companies. It would be surprising news to me if it was true that "most motherboard connectors are good up to 24watt", as was mentioned above, but neither of these were.

I looked at the manual for the OP's GA-990FXA-UD3 and didn't find mention anywhere in it what the fan headers are rated for. Might have to contact GigaByte support to find out.

Find a copper molex plug from an old fan, or some crap, snip the header off it, snip the yellow and black wires on the pump. Wire yellow into the 12v+ on the molex port(usually yellow or red) and the black into the ground on the molex, usually right next to the 12v+. Then keep the blue wire on, plug that into the mobo, and the molex into the PSU. Or if you have a free molex plug in your modding supply drawer you could just use that.

I wouldn't put that into your motherboard unless you definitively have a 1.5amp header which is rare.
