i5-3570k OC and WHEA errors

Hi, all!

Please help me figure out the reason for Kernel-WHEA EventID 20 warnings in my overclocked system. I searched the board, but this particular EventID doesn't seem to come up with anything useful, and it's bothering me. MSDN suggests it has to do with tidAMD64NBMachineCheck, but I am lost as to how it is relevant...

The specs are as follows:

Mobo: GIGABYTE G1.Sniper M3-CF (f10F modded BIOS from Tweaktown)
CPU: i5-3570K @ 4.4 GHz / 1.26V (yes, I've got a very average chip)
Cooler: Xigmatek Aegir (32C idle / 73C load)
RAM: Corsair CML8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600MHz @ 1.5V
OS: Windows 7 x64 SP1

BIOS settings:
LCC: Turbo
C1E, C3/C6, EIST are all enabled
VTT: 1.205V
PLL: 1.65V
IMC: 1.065V

I also discovered that despite explicitly being set to 1.2V in XMP profile, the board didn't set the VTT voltage correctly, leading to regular memory-related BSODs, so all RAM-related settings are set manually to the their respective values set in XMP profile

The OC itself was also very fiddly, I couldn't for the life of me got the chip to remain stable at 4.5 GHz no matter the vcore (one, hot, core kept failing in Prime95 after 3-4 hours, with the rest of them going fine).

It's worth noting that these warnings only occur during low-intensity use (e.g. web browsing), but sometimes there are none during the whole day, and then there are several during an hour (I'ave setup a popup alert in Event Viewer, so I know when they occur). The machine is stable overnight under heavy load (e.g. unning folding@home at full, encoding video with handbrake for hours, etc.). Prime95 (custom from blend using 90% of available memory) is stable for 7 hours+ as well.

Any ideas? I am lost (please don't suggest not OCing wink.gif)

Thanks!

Unfortunately WHEA errors = instability. Prime95 can be stable for hours, days, weeks etc but can still throw WHEA errors without Prime showing any instability. My advice would be to bump core voltage up a little and see if they go away.

Also, give IBT a try as well. If you have any instability it'll let you know within a few minutes vs hours of Prime.
