This. DAO is an actual RPG. Borderlands is just a mindless shooter with some skills and people brand it an RPG. It's really not.
Also, you asked what a god game is. Banished isn't a 'god' game. In Banished you don't play as a set character, it's kind of like a city builder but it's focused on survival. It's a pure sandbox experience so there's no story, you just try to grow your community and keep it thriving through harsh winters, starvation, disasters and stuff like that. It's fun but it's not for everyone.
