DFI Lanparty expert bios flashing

Thread Starter
Hello all, new here.

I'm having issues with flashing my BIOS using winflash. first off i cant find a winflash version newer then 1.92. when i select the BIOS file to start flashing it says "BIOS file size doesn't match with mainboard file size" its 831 kb. I also cant even tell what bios version i have, i looked all through the bios and it says nothing of version or date. i did follow the flash procedure mentioned in the forums here. if i need to extract the winimage self extractor file(NF4ED406), how do i go about doing that? winzip doesnt offer further extraction of that file. please help, i dont think i know what im doing.

Any help is appreciated!

That's dangerous when flashin BIOS tongue.gif

Why would you even update your BIOS? Does your computer has problems? Isn't it supporting larger drives? ??? --> Updating BIOS is NOT without a risk of totaly killing your motherboard...

If you still want to do it, here are some tips:

Install CPU-Z and go to the "Mainboard" tab --> there you'll see what motherboard you have and it's BIOS version.

Flashing in Windows is... meh... as Windows or the program to flash can be buggy or crash or etc...

Isn't there an option to flash it in the BIOS? Like my ASUS has one, called EZ-Flash.

So I download the latest BIOS to a FAT32 usb-stick (not NTFS) and go into the BIOS, select EZ-flash and load the file from the stick. Done.

EDIT: oh and it's your 1st post! Welcome to OCN wink.gifthumb.gif

ya i still would like to use latest bios(an itch i hopefully wont regret). DFI site says to use winflash 1.94. only thing you can do in bios is load other saved bios versions. and i cant get v1.92 to work, it just says bios file size doesn't match mainboard file size. its a phoenix bios v. 6.00PG 12/7/05. MB is DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Expert. (the rest of comp specs should be in my profile)

Thanks again =)

At the top right of this webpage you can see the button RIGBUILDER. You can there somewhere input your rig and it will show under your text (as with me and all the rest wink.gif)

Also can you post a screenshot ogf the MAINBOARD tab of CPU-Z?

Cause I had a problem last week with an ASUS board with the wrong BIOS version (file)

The board was P8P67 B3 (so it's revision 3) and I tried to install that latest BIOS for it but NOOOOOO......

Seems there was also an P8P67 Rev3.1 BIOS file rolleyes.gif

Just want to say, be sure you REALY have the correct file (and CPU-Z will (should) show us, what EAXACT board you have)

So you did fill in this form?

http://www.overclock.net/lists/component/manage/type/RIG

Hmmm wasn't there an option you had to check or something... I can't remember it...

Well there's also a SEARCH function where you can typ rig builder or something tongue.gif

Via CPU-Z I can see your motherboard is a: DFI LP UT NF4 Expert

When I google that I always come to DFI LanParty UT nForce4 SLI-DR Expert (so I guess it's this one... not familiar with DFI boards and seems like your is 10 years old or so?) --> the nforce4 is an old chipset... and in those days flashing BIOS can/could be a PITA!!!

Unless you want to upgrade, you might want to flash it (cause when it fails you HAVE to buy a new one wink.gif ) but I WOULD NOT advice you to flash it if you still want a working computer... --> Don't fix it, if it ain't broken wink.gif

Anyway here is some info, it also depends if your still using XP or not --> and based on your screenshot it seems that it is XP you are using. If you don't know for sure tell me.

Just read this, in the first paragraphe there's a link for XP users --> which is NOT working atm...

I did try filling it out twice and have 2 Rigs under my account now lol, not sure why they aren't showing.

anyhow i think i know what i was doing wrong, I downloaded the .exe file when i should be using the .zip....but which file do i use from the extracted .zip? the BIN or the dos batch file? i think the bin.
yes some of the DFI links are broken, that's why i couldn't get winflash v1.94

Thank you.

An .exe or a DOS batch file is "more or less the same" in terms of: it's executable.

But you don't want to execute something in the BIOS chip, you want to replace the BIOS chip's info.

So you'll need the .BIN

Put the bin file on a formatted usb stick (FAT or FAT32 or something, NOT the NTFS)

In the end it does not matter which version of WinFlash utility you use... But the most recent has the most bugs fixed ofcourse...

And for your RIG, you didn't try the SEARCH bar above the website eh wink.gif ??? --> http://www.overclock.net/t/1258253/how-to-put-your-rig-in-your-sig

Hehe, you're welcome!

Good for you it worked!

Can you edit your RAM in your sig? Cause OCZ is only the brand... WE want to know the speed and timings wink.gif --> use CPU-Z again and go for the "Memory" and "SPD" tab. In SPD you might need to choose another RAM-slot (in the pull-down menu) --> Slot # 1 or Slot #2 or ...

Memory Tab: Here you can see the speed and timings you are currently running

SPD Tab: Here you can see all the settings your RAM can run. All the JEDEC or XMP settings... (so it's possible you need/can change that in BIOS)

CPU-Z and GPU-Z are 2 programs you must have on your PC wink.gif

They tell you all the important stuff of your setup (motherboard, processor, RAM and graphics card)

And if you have other questions or problems with your computer ---> OCN thumb.gif (OverClock.Net)

EDIT: so if the update was a succes, you did check it again with CPU-Z? In the "Mainboard" tab you will see something else than 6.00PG (as in your screenshot above)
