Intel SSD slow in Laptop.

Thread Starter
I just moved my Intel X25-M to my Asus G53SW. The Random 4K performance is much lower then when i had it in my desktop.

SSD Test #2.png

The only thing i have installed is Intel Toolbook. All drivers are Windows 7 defaults.

That is normal , the labtop is a made to be very energie saving compared to desktop , it is the power of the pc that give high 4K .
Got several XM 25 in older devices and the less power the machine the less is the 4K and higher acces times than a modern dektop.

Intel i875 first sata moterboard , stil pretty fast with everything , W7 boot in 14 seconds smile.gif

intel Atom Pineview , that is real slow with everything , W7 boots in 22 seconds

Is there any way to remove the limitations? This laptop never gets used with battery as its a desktop replacement.

You can make a shortcircuit to the registrie to adjust the intelppm service . it can be set to 4 and the power is high , and with 3 it throttles down.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\intelppm]

Perhaps it boils down to differences in chipset? The IB chipset might have more optimized SATA performance compared to SB chipset.

Maybe your SSD was running in SATA-III mode on your desktop versus SATA-II mode on your laptop?

If it is any consolation, your 4K values are much better than mine (on a netbook):

Absolutely abysmal.

It was running on crappy Sata III controller. Switched it to Intel Sata II and got huge boost in desktop.

Okay. Does your laptop support SATA III? The collective wisdom of the internet says yes, but I wanted to ask you anyway.

You can also try updating your chipset drivers.
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775
[It probably won't improve performance, I think it only updates the device identification string displayed in device manager.]

If you really want higher 4K numbers, force your CPU to maintain a high performance state (prevent idling):
