I could prolly manage an Autoit Script, and I'm certain there's some more experienced users of it here than me.

Pin the script to the taskbar and when you launch it it would pop a little windows GUI at the mouse with a yes/no question and 2 boxes? You'd need to edit the script for each application but it would only be changing the path to the app it launches and switch the icon to that app.

I've not played with the windows GUI elements yet but it seems possible, and examples aren't hard to find.

You don't need visual basic to run vbscript. Windows can run it out of the box. But Jiiks' code you need to compile first :-)

Alt+f4 or ctl+alt+del,enter enter

Is the simplest way to do it. Other than that maybe try to find a different mouse thats more accurate for you

lol it's not the mouse. It's the user.

Also, Alt+F4 is useless because I'd still have to wait for the said program to launch, and as I said, some of them have a long startup time.

Nope, I just tested it myself and all you need is to set something up like this - it's literally copy, paste into Notepad, save, copy as VBS:

And when I run the shortcut, I get...

While not recommended for all programs, you could force the icons at the bottom of your screen to Run As Administrator every time. That would deliver a UAC prompt but would lead to some unnecessary privilege escalation....

Right click taskbar icon, right click the program name in the menu that appears, properties, compat. tab, checkbox for Run this Program as an Administrator

Hmm. If for some reason I don't use larsch's example, then this could be a good solution. I might try it.

I thank you, but I must apologize: I think I need this explained a little further. In the code, where do I put the path to the .exe?

Right-click shortcut, hit Properties, edit the thing in the brown box.

Can't you make the icons bigger? Or by lowering the desktop resolution (they also become bigger)

That way you have less chance to hit the wrong button smile.gif
