Single card 7950 stutter...I'm about to throw it out the window - Page 4

Hmmm.... Well hopefully it's the 7950 causing all the problems. I personally wouldn't jump ships until i am sure it's the graphics card, and from the looks of it, you haven't tried another identical graphics card to make sure.

Or just a different card altogether.. could be driver/system issue with amd card for example

There's also the issue of massive stuttering if i leave vsync etc. off - even though I'm at 110fps

I have a 7950 and I never play with vsync on and my games are just as smooth as they can get really. I run a 96hz+ on my screen which eliminates nearly all the screen tearing, so no need for vsync in my book.

Though when I first got my 7950, because it was a boost card it would throttle hard. Had a 7950 with low asic (58%) so was already pretty power hungry. Had to turn PowerLimit up, Actually had to modify my 7950's bios for a higher Power Limit. Currently running 35% power limit. At 20% when I overclocked my core clock would drop down and not stay at the proper setting causing massive lag.

When you get lag spikes does after burner register anything wrong going on like CPU/MEM clocks dropping?

And my Brother has my 5870 on is i3 3220 playing Bf4 and Titanfall with out a problem. So I would have to say maybe something going on with your rig. Maybe time to try a fresh install on windows?

I've already done plenty of fresh installs. I use afterburner to turn powerplay off - my clocks are always at max.

a)Try putting the games you're currently running on the SSD

b)Maybe play with the BIOS a bit: http://www.overclock.net/t/1453627/how-to-get-the-most-out-of-your-7-series-card/0_100

open gpu-z and run say..furmark..see if your card stays @ constant clocks or not.If it does..^ that method will help.
I've been using a 7950 and games are very smooth. 13.9 drivers, always run games on SSD.

it's probably that DVI to VGA converter you are using. If not that maybe your GPU is borked, but since your 5850 was doing the same thing it has to do something with your system. I had a 5850, 7950 and 7950 in crossfire and never had a problem with drivers with a lot of different driver versions.

Regarding the DVI to VGA converter why would you even go from digital to analog? Your picture must look horrible and grainy. Use proper DVI or if you can't HDMI.

This is what I was thinking.

What monitor are you using?
You should definitely try and avoid using VGA completely if at all possible.

I made a mistake. It's actually on a DVI -> HDMI cable. I've changed it to HDMI -> HDMI, but it makes 0 difference. The monitor I have has VGA and HDMI inputs.
