Are these considered cloth/bad for a mouse with a 9800 sensor/ my Taipan?

It's the ADNS-9818 to be more exact. Also, you could have just posted this as a response to your other thread instead of creating a new one...I know you're new but just for future reference that is probably a better idea.

I have no personal experience with either of those mats so I can't comment on them unfortunately. I only give advice on this forum for products I have used extensively enough to judge properly.

laser mice work with anything. opticals have trouble with those pads.

Have the ShidenKAI, it's a very hard cloth pad, the glass coating is some tiny specks of glass, not sure how to explain it but it's nice.

Zowie mice track fine on it, as well as the Kana v2.

The optical sensor is NOT used for tracking. If anything, it is for the stupid "surface calibration" feature. I still don't know why they put it in there because the 9800 sensor has an adjustable LOD already. It was more useful when they paired it with the PTE sensors they were using before so they could change the LOD. The 9800 is the sensor that's tracking.

My recommendation of the MM400 or MM600 stands.
