Correcting my response to an " ok cool!" as ive seen benchmarks placing 6MB L3 and 8MB L3 about 5 FPS apart .I was thanking the original poster for asking a question I had on my mind for the last few days and paid the original poster their reps for doing this for me.

"t'is" as in "it is not a concern"

most wouldn't know the difference between 6MB L3 and 8MB and it's hardly groundbreaking performance change for most tasks

Given the thread a serious clean-up.

Can we please stay on topic. The OP wants to decide between an i5 and i7, as well as what board to get. He does not want to know whether a QX9650 is still viable for WoW... feel free to make another thread if you want to discuss it further.

Cheers guys. smile.gif

Given the looks of things from this thread and its discussion I have been looking at upgrading my order to a ASRock Z87M OC Formula with an i7 4770k unless there is a reason not to buy this board? Its the most duarable in its price range and has alot of the features that i like , althou it does not have as many expansion slots as a full atx board

That ASRock Z87M OC Formula looks very good to me. Its price is also pretty good where I'm from.

The only problem mATX has is that you can't use some of the very large air coolers, but something like the NH-D14 still works for example, also the PH-TC14PE, so it really isn't a big problem. I like that you can opt to use it to build inside a compact mATX case at some point in the future.

What is different about the board that you can't use any of the bigger coolers. First time I have heard this so I am interested.

It's the real first expansion card slot being a tiny x1 PCI-E slot on the typical ATX board. This means the x16 PCI-E slot for the graphics card is actually the second expansion card slot. On mATX and ITX, it's not like this, the graphics card is one slot closer to the CPU socket.

But I mentioned very large coolers that are fine, so it's often not a problem. The cooler can be up to 140mm wide and will still work, just something truly monstrous like Archon SB-E or Silver Arrow SB-E won't work (155mm wide).

ok makes sense thanks for the info... always water-cool so never really notice the space encroachments

My cooler is 152w so idk if it will fit or not now that you mention that
post #120 of 206
What is your cooler? I've seen two strange ones that are not symmetrical, leave room on one side for the graphics card.

Use Google Image search to find pictures of it in an mATX board or ITX board or an ATX board like the ASUS Rampage IV which has a graphics card in the closest slot. Here's for example the 140mm NH-D14 in that Rampage board, there's no room left between it and the graphics card:
