Tried my original pc store ijk, they recommend the gigabyte oc over the msi power as the quality on the gigabyte is alot better then asrock then msi, is this true? The gigabyte board is also 40 bucks cheaper
post #142 of 206
Dude don't listen to what people are saying about the quality... plenty of people have already said ASRock is a great brand and like I mentioned you can hit the same OC on the cheapest board imaginable... that wasn't a joke... If I took my 5GHz capable i5-4670K out of my computer and tossed it into an ASRock Pro3 I would be able to run it at 5GHz.

Also a salesperson would know the least about this stuff. I used to be a manager for Fry's which is a huge retail company in the US that sells very high end PC components... Most of those guys knew next to nothing...

Get what is in your price range, has the features that you want that are important, and looks good to you if that kind of thing matters...

ABSOLUTELY ANY board that you buy that is z87 will be a good board for you... Some have better sound cards that others and you did originally mention an interest in an add-on sound card which I think you should avoid 100% unless you are looking at the $200 ASUS card... and if you are you are probably better off buying an external USB DAC/Headphone amp since you can use it with any PC/Laptop... A USB/DAC will function identically to a sound card and you can even run the headphone surround software from Razer which does actually create an effect that will allow you to tell the difference between something coming from in front of you vs coming from the rear...

If a company is better than another company it is true that it would be Gigabyte... but as I have tried to mention to you before what used to be SO IMPORTANT was the VRMs and this is not as important anymore.

Get WHAT YOU WANT...

It def does not deserve the amount of thought you have put into it.

I would be thinking more about if you should have for Z97 than if you should buy this board or that board.

Especially with you having an 8350 already... The i7 4770K is going to such an inconsequential upgrade... and then right after you buy it BOOM there's an entire new line of equipment!

Oh really, so I should cancel my order of the z87 gigabyte oc and the i7 4770k?

It is up to you...

I hate buying stuff right before the new stuff comes out... and I love buying stuff right when it comes out...

It is all your choice...

I mean the thing is though that you have an 8350... and it isn't like your even going to notice a huge difference...

Don't get me wrong I'm all for Intel but you have a CPU that in some cases is faster than a 4770K not really for gaming (at the moment)...

It might be worth the wait...

Yes. Get a nice cooler for your 8350 like an XSPC Watercooling kit below, overclock to 5Ghz and just wait for Z97 and the 4790K with Solder

My case cant support rads or anything like that i dont believe as it only has 12 cm fans on it, unless a 240 rad would fit in the front which i doubt. The 8350 does not like games that are only really intel optimised like tera online, world of warcraft and especially ffxiv ( that game runs so damn bad in a populated zone) In games with a 8350 overclocking them does not really help as the cpu is never at full potential as the other cores are just sitting there waiting for something to do as the games only really use two cores, unless its something like bf4, which only uses 6 and the other two are parked. Having a quick look on the internet there is nothing to really say that there will be a huge upgrade from the 4770k to the next refresh, and that it will only really improve next year with broadwell. Man if anything i will cancel that gigabyte board and get the asrock z87 oc formula as its just one beast of a mainboard
