i5 or i7 - Page 8

Only get i7 if you are going to to a crossfire of r9 290(x),where the HT makes the difference when the cpu needs more power

Btw do you play with 2x screens?have you tried ocing to 5ghz and compare results?

On which games do you get fps drops?

What is the cheapest Z87 board... if there is not one that is a lot less then just get whatever one you like more.

But please don't go off what people say that is good or bad about a specific company. I have had enough boards to see all of the companies fail at something... gigabyte has just as many fails as anyone else. Sometimes I really think that ASRock is the best value followed by Gigabyte... If you buy an ASUS you really have to buy the top end ones to get anything worth while unless you can make use of the TUF II Thermal Radar (external temp probes).

Can you buy the ASRock Z87M OC Formula?

I know it only has (2) PCIe 16x slots but you really shouldn't run more than 2 cards on a board that doesn't have an X79 chipset and CPU or a board with a PLX chip like the OC Force.

The Z87M OC Formula is a ton of board for the money and there is no board that can overclock ram better than the OC Formula boards but as I said before you just won't see any performance gains from running your ram faster and when you OC your CPU it can sometimes reduce the max OC on the ram.

Anyways between what you are looking at now my vote is on the ASRock unless what I told you about the HDMI turns you off... then get the Gigabyte... neither are the wrong choice...

Oh one last thing... how much is this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131989 where you are... because that is a good board as well.

Then how did I make enough profit on my 7950s to pay for a 780 and a ram upgrade? lolz. You are right though... the mining craze is one of the once in a generation aberrations in the market that saw completely skewed pricing levels to the extent that used GPUs with warranty availability left were, in some cases, actually selling for more than what they did brand new.

A hero is $308, oc forumal is $299, oc m is $213.

The games i get a fps drop is ffxiv, wow and bf4, they are the games that i play, one place i can be sitting at 120+ fps then bam straight down to 50 fps no one else in the zone but me and the fps doesnt go up until i leave the zone, around alot of characters the fps will drop to the low 20-30s and on the misses intel it sits at a steady 60 fps with a lower end gpu so .... yes i tried different gpus with this cpu, even my 770 and the fps is always the same, so it must be a cpu probem

My budget would be up to $370 for a cpu which will do up to an i78 4770k and around the $200 mark depending on what cpu that is purchased.

What would be the better option an i5 with a more expensive board or an i7 with a less expensive board , and which mainboard should i purchase?

For FFXIV and WoW, get the i7-4770k, not just any i7, get the latest and overclock it as high as you can. Why? Because in WoW and FFXIV you will get awful frame drops regardless of processor (I 've tested a 3960X o/c at 4.5Ghz and with three full raid groups on screen, I got dropped all the way to 6-9fps). The newest haswell will be the best at dealing with those, but if you think you'll get rid of them, it just won't happen.

The fps drop on bf4 gets fixed with using windows 8.1(this happens all the time on the gpu forum),on which part do you get fps drops on final fantasy?

The main thing that puts me off an asrock or asus board is there is no dual bios so if one fails the board is a throw away pretty much lol

I am using windows 8.1 now and the issues are still present, oh really? So if i buy a new i7 cpu i will still have the same framerate issue and would have just wasted over $500?? In ff i get a choppy intro video, choppy frame rate when running around in zones with lots of players eg camp dragonhead, main towns, crafting areas, its all jittery until im in a dead zone which is most of them now as alot of people have left the game until the patch comes out

I've owned 8 straight ASRock boards from Z77 to Z87 to X79 and they are top notch. Why would a bios fail?

Well a full Limsa Lominsa was laggy and choppy on a 4.4Ghz i5-2500k that I tried. It really is how MMORPGs are coded, absolutely CPU bound when lots of players are around. A highly overclocked 4770k is your best bet, it should perform noticeably better than an FX-8350 but it won't be perfect for sure and I can't tell If it is gonna be any more enjoyable to you. Just clock both core and RAM as high as you can and hope for the best.
